Maxis Match Only

Jul 31, 2012 17:04

Hi again!

So since this afternoon I've been working on a new community called maxismatch_only. There is no post yet but it will come soon. I'm working on tags, because tags are our best friends and if you don't have them you can't find nothing. I already have 30 tags based on ep's and sp's + the buy mode categories by function find on the sims wiki.

If some of you ( Read more... )

My writing is not exactly inspiring today. Ugh. This is what I have now ( ... )

You're right your writing is not inspiring, you're fired! :P

I really like your set of rules. I like that you give example of what we're talking about and what we don't want.

If in the future members can post too, we should have rules against hotlinks and the sizes of the pictures, no?

And what do you think of the community journal style? Me I think it should be simple and clean but if you or meetme2theriver think another one is better, tell me. :)

I'm going to wait for meetme2theriver opinion before posting the rules on the community profile.

The community style is nice and clean, I think. :) I personally prefer styles that use more of the screen instead of just a small portion in the middle, but I realize lots of people like these styles (and LJ is sadly lacking in nice, pre-made styles that do cover more of the screen, as I found out when looking for a style for my own journal). It would make for less scrolling in big posts and make big pictures less likely to break the style, though.

Okay, I'm going to try to find one but if you do first give me the name, and if we all liked it, we will change it. If you find one, I prefer those with plain background.

Oh no! xD

We should definitely have rules against hotlinking and maximum size of pictures. (And max. one picture outside a cut?)

I do like the layout, it's really clean and simple and not distracting. Like meetme said, it's a shame that it only uses a bit from the whole screen, but LJ doesn't have a lot of nice styles. I like the style. :)

Yes we should have rules for that, because there's always people who do that.

Maybe the maximum size of pictures should be 650X450 pixels? What do you thinks?

I will try to find another layout, but if one of you find one, tell me. Something with a plain background is nice.

650x450 pixels sounds good. The pictures will not be too big that way but it's not so small that people will start complaining about it.

If I find a nice layout that's plain and bigger, I'll let you know.

What do you think guys about those 2 layout: Unity Baby Blue, Expressive by Lilia Ahner and Weston Grey, Expresssive by Lilia Ahner?

Those are both nice. :) I think I like Weston Grey slightly better, because its colours are so clean and easy to read.

Voleste voted for that layout too, so Weston Grey it is! :)

I like Weston Grey a lot! I'm voting for that theme.

These are good, I think. I have a couple of suggestions:

Maybe each category should have a couple of examples of both what we consider to be MM, and what we don't. Especially the former, since I think it's more important to point out what we are looking for than what we're not looking for.

Also, isn't it a bit restrictive to only include Maxis recolours and add-ons? No original meshes (or walls and floors)? I agree that buggybooz's sets are borderline too realistic (although I love them :)) to be MM, but most of HolySimoly's stuff fits very nicely into a cartoony, Maxis Matchy game, I think.

But it depends on what exactly we want the community to be for, I suppose? What do you guys think?

Also, including makeup, accessories, etc is a good idea. :) (Just don't expect me to find much of it, heheh, I have a very poor collection of makeup in my game.)

That's a very good point, I'll add examples to all categories.

I wasn't completely sure about the objects (good thing this was only a draft), I'm glad you shone your light over it. I agree that HolySimoly stuff does fit a cartoon-y game very well, however I wasn't sure if we should expand the guidelines to also include cartoon-y objects. But, I'll add it, also for the walls and floors. :) (And I love Buggy's stuff as well, they're amazing!)

And yes, accessoires as well. I'm not sure how to restrict makeup though, most makeup that's originally made for realistic games fits a cartoon-y game very well also.

Oh, good, we're all agreeing then. :) I think it's really hard to draw a line with objects, I mean, I think some recolours of Maxis objects aren't very Maxis-y even, but I guess we can be judge on a case by case sort of basis. Most people will agree that Adele, for example, isn't quite Maxis Match, awesome as she is. :)

Good point about the makeup, though. I don't really have any good suggestions on that, since all I have in my game is some lipstick and freckles, but as a makeup CC amature myself I wouldn't mind seeing some finds in that category. :) I guess we can just sort of see what happens. When/if we allow members to post, we just have to make sure we don't get loads of very shiny/super detailed makeup posts, I guess!
