I've had a pretty shit day, so now I'm going to do the music meme everyone else is doing because it'll distract me from bursting into tears.
FAVORITES
What is your favorite genre of music? Heavy metal. That's broad, but it's the most accurate answer for me. Any variations of that genre, or rock itself, will also fit.
Name your favorite band(s): Metallica, Rush, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Opeth, Eluveitie, Amon Amarth, Rammstein, Mastodon.
Name your favorite solo artist(s): I feel like I don't have any, since I've been sitting here for the last five minutes trying to come up with an answer for this. Ummm...I really, really love Adele just like the rest of the fucking planet. I'll also put Devin Townsend, just so it fits with the feel of the meme by the answers I've already given.
What is your favorite album?: Ride The Lightning - Metallica. 2112 - Rush. Everything Remains (As It Never Was) - Eluveitie. Gods Of The Earth - The Sword. Twilight Of The Thunder God - Amon Amarth. Black Gives Way To Blue - Alice In Chains.
What is your favorite album cover? I'm not sure if I have a favorite, but I have a few that have always been present in my life, so they're iconic and memorable to me. Nirvana's Nevermind is definitely up there - I was always so concerned for that baby, and every time I'd look at it I'd always ask either my mom or dad if they used a real baby, like they would know the answer. :p Oh, I also really like Judas Priest's Nostradamus.
Name your favorite song(s): This is the stupidest question, but I'll do my best: Fade To Black by Metallica, Live For The Kill by Amon Amarth, Subdivisions by Rush...that's about it. lol what a shitty list.
Favorite CD you own: Metallica's Master Of Puppets, for sentimental reasons.
Favorite song on your computer: All my songs are on my computer. I'll put
this one because I think it's appropriate.
Favorite song you DON'T have: Um, I'm taking this as a song that I've heard and just haven't gotten around to downloading yet. So I guess I'll go with
this.
Favorite vocalist: James Hetfield. Geddy Lee. Ronnie James Dio. Rob Halford. Bruce Dickinson. Mikael Akerfeldt.
Favorite guitarist: Randy Rhoads. Dimebag Darrell. Michael Schenker. Uli Jon Roth. Joe Satriani.
Favorite bassist: Geddy Lee. Cliff Burton. Steve Harris.
Favorite drummer: Neil Peart.
Favorite classical / jazz composer: I love gutting, dark, classical music, so I'll put Wagner and Samuel Barber.
Favorite rapper: I don't have one.
Favorite theatrical score: The Lion King. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Both those soundtracks give me all the feelings.
Favorite of anything not mentioned: Concert? Converge/Mastodon/Dethklok.
THE BAD STUFF
What's your least favorite genre of music?: Country. Shitty rap and shitty hip-hop.
Who's your least favorite band?: I can't think of any bands, actually. I'll just go with Nickelback, since that's easy.
Who's your least favorite solo artist?: Chris Brown. Taylor Swift. Justin Bieber. Miley Cyrus. Demi Lovato. Ke$ha.
Who do you think is the most annoying musician?: See above.
If you could shoot any "artist" or "band", who would it be?: I really don't know why those words are in quotation marks for this question. But again, any of the people above would suffice.
Who do you think is the least talented?: Pretty much every contemporary pop/rap artist that gets airplay on commercial radio. Except for Adele.
Least favorite song: Anything by Nicki Minaj.
Most annoying song: Anything by Nicki Minaj.
Most repetitive song: Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO.
Last song to be stuck in your head:
This one (but I love it so it's not that bad).
YOUR MUSICAL BACKGROUND
What was the first music you remember listening to?: Any of the classic rock and metal that I've already mentioned, stuff like Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden.
What type of music do your parents listen to?: My dad loves classic rock/metal music. He's my music buddy, it's where I inherited my tastes from, although I've leaned towards heavier and darker stuff since I've gotten older, which he's not really into. Besides the bands I've already mentioned, he also really loves UFO, Deep Purple, Scorpions, the like. My mom would be the person that says she likes "anything", but she tends to lean more towards poppier stuff and music she listened to growing up. Elvis and Madonna are probably her two favorite artists. And she says Linkin Park is her favorite band. LAWL. But whenever she's cleaning the house, she always puts on the light classical music channel that we have. And if she's driving by herself, she'll usually rotate between that and Broadway/theatrical numbers.
Do you play any musical instruments, or sing? If so, elaborate. I played the trumpet for about seven years. My mom played it in high school, and her instrument was still buried somewhere in my grandparent's basement. After my granddad died and my grandmom planned on moving out, she found it and was going to get rid of it, but then gave it to me when my mom told her that I had been begging to play any musical instrument. I wanted to be a part of some kind of school activity, but we couldn't afford to buy an instrument and then take lessons for it, so I took in my mom's old instrument and was basically taught by her, along with the lessons I had to take in school.
Do you take lessons for instruments or voice? If so, for how long?: Yes, for the same amount of time, about seven years. I started playing in 5th grade, and in grade school I was part of the band, so I had to be in band practice and took individual lessons. In high school, I joined the orchestra, and it was mandatory to take music lessons if you were part of any music group, so I took those until I graduated.
Do you plan to / have you gone to college for music?: No, but the school I go to now has a very big music program, and I have a few good friends who are involved in the music major in some way, so I feel like I can live out my musical dreams through them.
Who are your musical inspirations? Any of the bands/artists I already listed as my favorites. I'll give special mention to James Hetfield because he is my musical king.
Who was your first favorite band or artist? I was seriously into Good Charlotte for the last few years of grade school, when I was about 12 - 14. Because I basically listened to all my dad's music, I couldn't connect with any of my friends because nobody listened to them, so I felt like I had to find some band that sorta fit with my tastes, but would also help me connect with people, and GC was the first band to do that for me.
Who is your most recent favorite band or artist? I really don't know. I've recently discovered Amorphis and Draconian, and I really like them both.
What styles of music are you interested in learning about? I've always wanted to play guitar, and every few years I'll give it another shot. But I think it's a lost cause, because I always give up for the same reason, and it's never going to change. My fingers are physically too small to fit around the frets, and I get easily frustrated by the fact that I probably won't be able to learn how to play it unless I buy like a child's size guitar, and that's not gonna happen.
What styles of music do you already know a lot about? Metal, most likely. Specifically the pre-mid 80s bands.
Do you know much about musical theory? If not, would you like to? No, I only know it's a headache from the way my friends would react whenever they had to take an exam on it. No thanks.
If you take lessons, do you like your teacher(s)? I liked both my grade school and high school teachers who gave me lessons.
How many different music teachers do you have, or have you had? Two.
THIS OR THAT
Classical or jazz? Classical.
Classic rock or modern rock? Classic rock.
Rock or Rap? Rock.
Emo or Punk? Punk.
Funk or Blues? Blues.
Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin? Led Zeppelin.
Bob Marley or Michael Franti? Bob Marley.
Coldplay or Radiohead? Coldplay. h8ers gonna h8.
Guster or Dispatch? Who?
John Mayer or Jack Johnson? Jack Johnson. I don't really like either person's musical style, but I can at least appreciate Jack Johnson as a person, so I'll go with him.
Eminem or 50 Cent? Eminem.
Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera? Neither.
Backstreet Boys or N'SYNC? Backstreet Boys. I hated that everyone was into N'SYNC because I just did not get the appeal. BB is where it's at!
The Beatles or the Rolling Stones? I'm a terrible person and shouldn't go with either because I really haven't listened to either of them very much. But I guess I'll go with The Beatles, since the stuff I have heard from them I've enjoyed more than the little I've heard from The Stones. And I'd like to learn more about them anyway, so we might as well start there.
Beethoven or Mozart? Both? It doesn't really matter to me.
Rachmaninoff or Debussy?Who?
Duke Ellington or Count Basie? Duke Ellington.
Electric or acoustic? I love both, I don't think I can choose.
Mandolin or ukulele? Mandolin.
Saxophone or trumpet? Trumpet. For biased, obvious reasons.
MISCELLANEOUS
Why do you like music? Why do you like music?
When you're angry, what type of music do you listen to? Something thrashy, or whatever gets my blood going at the time.
Has music ever made you cry? When? Music makes me cry all the fucking time.
Has music ever made you laugh? When? LOL
these guys crack me up.
What is the best show you have ever been to? My first Metallica concert. The Dethklok concert I mentioned earlier. The Eluveitie/Amon Amarth concert.
Have you ever played in any shows? Just my band and orchestra concerts I had participate in.
Do you enjoy being on stage? If it was just me, then no, definitely not. I'd be too nervous and be shaking so much I'd mess up what I was doing. I could only do it if I was in a group, which is why orchestra was okay, and it also helped that I was in the brass section, which was like the very last row so nobody could see or hear me if I screwed up, lol.
Do you like to sing, even if you don't consider yourself a singer?: No, because even if I sometimes do it when I'm alone, I'm aware of how awful I sound and it just makes me feel like a talentless fuck. :p
If you could meet any musician and ask them for advice, who would it be? James Hetfield.
If you could just chill with any musician, who would it be? Brendon Small.
What instrument that you don't play now would you like to learn next? Guitar, but since there are complications with that, I'd like to learn either the violin or the drums.
Do you like foreign types of music? If so, what types? Most of the metal bands I listen to are foreign, but they're usually from Sweden or Norway, which is what most people would guess at. As far as unusual foreign bands, I've always liked
this song (these guys are Israelian), and I've recently found about
this band, who hail from Spain, and absolutely love them.
But off of metal, probably the most foreign music I listen to are Japanese artists, because I watch a lot of anime and will usually download the themes from the shows. I love Shiro Sagisu, he's the composer for the series BLEACH.
This is one of the more emotional pieces. I really love
this theme from the series Clannad, along with
this one. I'm not sure when
this is played, but it's from the most heartbreaking anime I've ever watched in my life, so it needs to be mentioned.
LOL I just realized those are all like sad, depressing pieces of music. SO HERE'S SOME LULZY ONES.
This is the second opening theme for Death Note and the band reminds me of like a Japanese System of a Down and it cracks my shit up, like seriously, what the fuck am I watching? Omg and I have to include
this one because it's like the first piece of music that took my attention when I was watching BLEACH and then THIS GOSPEL SINGER COMES OUT OF NOWHERE and I was just like "what is going onnnnnn?" It was a really hysterical experience. And I'll also just throw
this one out there for nostalgic purposes, because even though I actually enjoy the song, InuYasha was the first anime I ever got into, so it was sort of my gateway into this weird nerdy world, and the very first episode of the series I watched had this ending, so it totally sends me back to my 13 year old self. Also, it makes me laugh because my sister and I purposely sing the lyrics wrong and we find it hysterical.
Now, most people will probably disregard all of this, so I'll just finish it off here.
