19. Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey
This right here is why I'm falling so far behind in my book count. Nine. Hundred. Pages. A very enjoyable read, just took me forever.
This is a book I'd recommend to anyone who like's Anne Bishop's Black Jewels Trilogy. It has that same lush, sensual, deeply messed up quality. :)
The setting and mythology is really interesting as well. It's set in a fantasy version of Europe, particularly in Terre d'Ange (France). The major religion is the worship of Blessed Elua (son of Jesus & Mary Magdalene, but in a mythological "his blood mingled with her tears, producing a child" kind of way rather than a sex kind of way...which is surprising considering how everything else in the books pretty much revolves around sex.)
The book was heartbreaking and hard to read, but it a good way.
20. From Dead to Worse by Charlaine Harris
Mmm...trashy vampire novels. As always, this was a lot of fun.
