35, 36, and 37 Amber and Ashes, Amber and Iron, Amber and Blood by Margaret Weis
Like I always seem to do with Dragonlance, I read these out of order, reading this trilogy after the War of Souls, which I thought I'd finished. Apparently not.
This is a Dungeons & Dragons geek book; there's just no other way to put it. You know how when you read the original Chronicles and Legends, you can hear dice rolling in the background? This is the same way. Heck, there are even appendices at the back with notes on incorporating things from this series into your campaigns on Krynn. That said, it's good. Darker and more melancholy than most Dragonlance stuff, though I suppose the war of souls was fairly dark.
I liked the characters in this one: Rhys Mason, a monk of Majere with a really smart dog, and Nightshade, a kender who talks to ghosts. The gods are also characterized a lot more, which is pretty cool.
