TV or Not TV--Pushing Daisies and Primeval (and Prisoner)

Nov 21, 2008 13:06

They've killed Pushing Daisies: "Sources: Daisies, Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Canceled" by Kristin Dos Santos at E! Online. They said they'd look at Wednesday's ratings and next week's. Apparently they only looked at Wednesday's overnight figures. Bryan Fuller says he'll do a comic book. Kristin Chenoweth wants a feature film.

I hesitated to call this show "my show," because I was afraid they were going to kill it. Well, now I don't have to worry about jinxing it anymore: THEY KILLED MY SHOW. sob

On the lighter side, ITV has a "show reel" for the upcoming season here. Click the "Showreel" tab; at least on my Mac, in my Safari, there's no way to see the timing, control the speed, back up, or pause. I didn't realize that immediately so didn't get the exact timing, but it has a short flurry of really brief clips followed by roughly ten minutes of "Drama." I didn't watch anything after "Drama."

The Prisoner, the remake with Ian McKellen and Jim Caviezel, appears near the end of "Drama". It looks wrong. The point is that #2 is replaceable and not Number One; it's the institution, not the individual, that's the problem. So this Number Two has his face plastered over the Village? And Number Six comes off as desperate and wimpy. Patrick McGoohan may have had desperate moments, but he was always forceful and usually self-assured. Brilliant Husband is waiting to pass judgment. I figured I'd start now and avoid the rush later.

Primeval is at the very end of "Drama," and you can see a little of the new characters and a fair amount of some of the old. Until now, I wasn't even sure they'd started filming the new series yet. Here I will withhold judgment (although part of me insists that season three has to be better than season two because it simply can't be worse). I don't feel like it really spoils anything, but watch at your own risk. (Note to Ben Miller fans: do pay attention to the clip from Moving Wallpaper earlier in "Drama"! His character seems a lot like Lester in this little clip, and yet in one or two important ways not.)

ETA: Spoilers in comments! (At least for Primeval, and others may follow.)
