Reflections
There is just one reason why Alaris will not get into a relationship, and that is this: She will not be owned.
There was a lot of gossiping about me and this guy in the class recently, and a talk with several other people helped me figure it out.
1) Don't respond to teases. I know people have said this myriad times but I never really thought I could do it, because most of my friends thrive on teasing me about this and that. Hmm. And during Project ChaRmille this fencing guy Zhidong who just met Si Chen properly found this thing in common - that I was fun to tease. Thanks, Sophie! :) Just treat them as clowns.
2) There are only two types of guys. One is the sort who are really weirdly sentimental (and sometimes these try to prove that they're guy enough), and the other type is cold and unable to empathise. The sort who will like you is usually the first. Which is BAD. Cause you really don't want their attachments to their dream girl tangled with you! And then they might view you as their property. >_< The second type... Well, Alaris doesn't know about them since after all, this is only her first year properly figuring out guys and none of the type 2 sort have professed anything yet. :D (Or maybe *love* turns them into idiots and they're all the same sort anyway).
3) So... Elaborating from point 2, when these type 1 guys start to like you in any way, then they want to spend all their time with you. Which means your own friends assume you're theirs as well and start to make way for you even though you DON'T INTEND TO GIVE THEM UP and then everyone just fuels each other and believes it. Urgh. Complicated and vicious cycle of perceived romanticism.
In conclusion, if you want freedom (and not just something so *selfish* as freedom, but your own sense of Self and self-respect) then don't get mixed up with people like that. Now Alaris asks for comments from anyone who knows better?
