We were out of waffle mix this morning and Zoë wanted waffles, so I made up some batter so she could have a batch. Which got Mike and me talking about why and when we started buying waffle mix instead of making waffle batter when we wanted some. Both of us grew up in households with homemade pancakes and waffles, so it was a deliberate choice at some point to go the store-bought route. We think it's probably because we don't bake at home regularly, so it's possible we might be out of flour, or sugar, or baking powder. And if we have to run to the store to pick up waffle-batter-supplies, it's just as easy to pick up a mix. Especially since we don't eat pancakes or waffles all that often.
But it's so irregular for us to make our own pancake and waffle batter that Zoë doesn't know how to make it. She saw it happen today, now she just needs to make it herself.
