Rode out on Jet today and another person at the yard came out on her mare. Simon brought Neo for a walk. He was pretty good for most of it but then the 2 of us on horseback went to explore a path we haven't been along yet while Simon had a rest with Neo on some lovely lush grass. He seemed happy stuffing his face when I looked back but apparently a few mins later his little brain realised we'd gone and he started to spin about.. of course grabbing a bit of grass between spins. Simon then said he kicked out and yanked the leadrope from his hands and tanked off back up the path we'd come down. Fortunatley he was found looking sheepish over the fence to the bottom livery yard field so hadn't headed all the way up to the road! I was worried when we got back from our explore and they weren't where we'd left them.
I really need to get him going out on his own sometimes but I can't walk that far or fast so I'm a bit limited to what I can do. I don't think Simon's happy to take him out on his own. Yard owner has a bad leg as well so she can't walk far either! I guess so long as he gets used to at least short walks out alone he should be OK.
I'm making him sound a monster, but 99% of the time he's easy to lead. He has just been moved to another field and back in with Storm his fave mare yesterday so I don't think that helped. Also it was quite breezy today. Even Jet had a spring in his step!
