SUMMARY: One year ago Kibum and Jonghyun were forced to break up. Now it's finally time to say goodbye...
Sometimes things in life just don't go the way you want them to. Sometimes obstacles occur that you can't avoid. Sometimes one obstacle is enough to change your whole life and often these changes aren't in your interest, but you aren't able to do anything against them. After all humans aren't meant to change their fate, are they?
One year ago Kibum had to accept a change that he didn't see coming. How had he been supposed to notice that the situation was changing when everything had seemed perfect. He had been happy with his boyfriend. Yes, he had been blindfolded by his happiness. He had totally forgotten that outside his pink bubble actually a whole world existed. A world with people that didn't approve of his relationship with another boy. That his own family belonged to those people was something he should have known. But he had ignored the fact that he made his family sad, disappointed and mad. But well, you can run, you can hide, but you can't run away for the rest of your life. You can ignore, you can pretend, you can make yourself believe that everything is fine, but you can't live a lie forever.
So when it had been his brother that slowly teared Key's love apart from him, it really had taken him by surprise. He had never thought that his brother would be able to hurt him. He had never thought that his brother would mess things up behind his back. He had never thought that his brother hated his lover so much. He had never thought that his brother would fight with his love. But indeed it had been Minho who had done all these things. It had been Minho who hurt his younger brother the most.
Jonghyun, his handsome and perfect boyfriend, his love of his life, had tried to stay by his site. He had fought to stay with him. He had fought with his own parents. But at the end it had become obvious that you can't change destiny. You just can't escape what your fate holds for you. Key has never been believing in things like fate and fortune cookies. He had been too sure that he could control the paths in his life. He had been too sure that everything would go the way he wanted it to go. He had been dumbfounded when things had started to go out of hands.
And now? What happened to him now? He was Jonghyun's guest. He was guest at a reception that should have been his. His marriage with the only person in the whole wide world that was perfect in his eyes. The only person he has been loving from the first time they saw each other. The only person he wanted to be with.
But he was not just a guest. No, he was Jonghyun's best man. A circumstance that hurt him deep in his heart. A circumstance that had made him cry before. A circumstance for that he hated Jonghyun, even though he loved him more than anything else. A circumstance that made him sad and yet somehow proud because Jonghyun still liked him. Jonghyun still treated him like he was an important friend to him.
Jonghyun's parents hadn't bothered to wait til their son had recovered from his (enforced) break up with his boyfriend. They hadn't bothered to ask how their own son had felt. They hadn't bothered to ask him for his will when they had engaged him with a perfect girl.

Playing with the straw in his drink, Kibum's gaze remained on the dance-floor. He was watching how Jonghyun danced with his young spouse. Gyuri was pretty, Gyuri was beautiful. She was just as perfect as Jonghyun himself and Kibum had to admit that the happy couple looked absolutely amazing together. They deserved each other and he was hoping that they could become happy with each other.
»May I ask for this dance?« Kibum's eyes widened. He looked directly in Jonghyun's brown orbs, struggling for words. What was he supposed to do? Was it okay to dance with his ex lover at whose wedding? Was it? »If you take any longer the song will end.« Jonghyun smiled at him, holding his right hand in front of Kibum's nose, waiting. Slowly the younger boy took Jonghyun's hand and rose from his spot. »Just one last dance?« »Just one last dance. Let us pretend that everything is alright«, the older requested.
Kibum didn't mind pretending. After all that was what he has been doing since they had been forced to break up. He was good at pretending. He was good at showing a happy face when he really felt like crying. He was good at smiling while he felt empty inside. He was good at fooling others so that they didn't have to worry for him.
Jonghyun led him onto the dance-floor. Standing a little apart from the other dancers, he intertwined their fingers together and laid his right hand on Kibum's lower back. He followed the older male's steps, getting lost with the music and the warm feeling of Jonghyun's touch. How he has been missing these moments. How he has been hoping they would come back to him. But they won't come back, right? There was no hope for a return. There was no hope for a divorce so that Jonghyun could come back to his side.
»So I heard that you're going to study in America«, Jonghyun began, looking at him. Kibum nodded slightly. »Yeah, my parents approved my decision. I'll be away for four years.« The music changed and the groom pulled Kibum closer, lying both his hands on the boy's lower back. Kibum entwined his arms around the older's neck, pressing himself against the latter's body.
It was just one last dance, why shouldn't he make the best out of it?
Kibum closed his eyes, resting his chin on the shorter man's shoulder. Inhaling his ex lover's scent, he nearly got the feeling that everything was perfect. That everything was like back than. He missed those times. He missed being happy.
The song was calm and relaxing. A sweet melody that took Kibum's thoughts away and left a feeling of peace and happiness behind. All he felt was how close Jonghyun was, how warm and nice it was to be together with him for once more. But the music ended too fast, he wasn't ready to let go of Jonghyun yet. Didn't want to lose the feeling of the older's touch yet.
But Jonghyun broke away from him as soon as the song ended. Kibum opened his eyes, looking at him for a mere seconds, before he leaned in, to touch his ex boyfriend's lips for the last time. But Jonghyun laid a finger on the younger's lips, preventing a kiss from hapenning. »Don't Kibum-ah, don't make it any harder for yourself... for us«, he breathed. And Kibum nodded. He understood. He understood too well. It was just one last dance. No one last kiss implied.
»Let's meet again sometime«, the boy managed to say, knowing that there won't be a sometime for them. Knowing, that they won't meet again. At least not for the next four years. Jonghyun smirked. »Yes. Let's meet again.«
But maybe, there would be a chance for them to meet again, to dance again together, to kiss. Maybe not yet, maybe not in the next four years. And maybe not even in 20 years. But maybe they could meet again in another life. In another time, with other parents. Who knew what destiny would bring them?
