Happy 2015! Bonus Yuletide 2014 reflections

Jan 01, 2015 16:02

I hope everybody had a wonderful end-of-year celebration! Happy 2015! (I still typed 2014 on the first try... my dates are going to be hilarious for the next few weeks, if not months.)

My first year as a Yuletide participant is over, and I must be one of the luckiest people alive, because I didn’t receive one awesome gift, I received two. Check them out:

  • Clover: Conservation of Energy by undomielregina

I don’t believe CLAMP will ever finish Clover, so I asked for a tall order of all the Clovers being happy, and a side of Gingetsu/Ran. The author took it and returned me a happy ending with hope AND PHYSICS. Physics! Magic meta in my gift! With hope! It must be read to be believed, go go go!

  • Saiyuki Gaiden: Cause or Effect by sekaiseifuku

I asked for a vague Kanzeon Bosatsu-centric piece featuring hir hijinks, and the author basically delivered a platter of amAZING?? It’s a snapshot of one of hir earlier days as a bodhisattva, and it’s very much in keeping with Minekura-sensei’s whiplash genre mashup in her Saiyuki metaverse as a whole. Bonus Jiroushin sass and baby Konzen Douji shout out! Don’t miss this one!

And, lastly, my own attempt to please my recipient:

  • Tokyo Babylon: The Seasons Forgiving by aegistheia for verdenal

PG-13 | Gen | Everything happens in between one breath and the next.

(I don’t usually talk about my actual stories outside of my writing/fic blogs, but it seems fitting, in talking about Yuletide, to speak of the story I wrote for my recipient. It’s a character piece and spoils the manga, so it’s, uh, it’s not exactly the happiest story on the internet. But I tried to keep to the atmosphere of the manga, so there is that!)

Overall, I had a massive amount of fun in Yuletide 2014. The idea of giving love to tiny fandoms is one that really, really appeals to me; what a lovely opportunity to get productive for deserving fandoms. I regret that I didn’t have enough time to write a bunch of Treats, but there is always New Year’s Resolution, as well as Yuletide 2015 itself. Count me in, fellow fans!

Here’s to a better year than the last!
