Who: Chie, Open. When: Afternoonish Where: Near the train station, wandering around campus. What: Chie's arrival at Aegean Warnings: None! I think. ._.
Kain was a little bit surprised by being flagged down by this...odd looking female. (That was female, right?) The girl was dressed in what he normally would have considered attire appropriate for a young boy but he had to remember this wasn't his world and things here were largely different. The expression on his face didn't change much beyond its usual stoicness however (thankfully), but he did look a little questioning at being chosen for...whatever it was she wanted.
At the moment Kain was actually sans his usual armor. That wasn't to say that he looked like a normal modern-day citizen. He was dressed in elegant hues of purple and blue, a cape streaming down his proud back. If he looked like anything it was a knight going to a formal ball rather than into battle. He lifted a graceful hand (gloved in a deep violet that was nearly black) and tucked his blond hair (which was flowing completely free today) behind an ear
( ... )
Chie supposed she had better pay more attention to those she randomly snagged for information, because her first choice would not have been this elegant but somewhat imposing man. She stepped back a pace, momentarily lost for words at his attractive appearance and deep voice. A blush spread across Chie's face, and she looked embarrassed that she had stopped Kain in the first place.
"Uh...haha...sorry." Her eyes couldn't help but peer curiously at his cloak, hardly a typical accessory of the normal business man. "I...uh...well I'm a new student at Caspian Magnet High School... and uh... I was just going to ask for directions.. but...well, if you're on the way to something, you don't need to bother...really..."
Kain noticed all of this but his expression remained decidedly neutral. While it was truthful enough the dragoon could preen with the best of them, he made a point to have the utmost of control over his features. Especially when he did not have his helmet to hide behind.
The elegant man stood quietly for a moment, his eyes locked onto her the entire time. Contemplating his response, most likely. His eyes closed briefly and he actually smiled--sorta. His head turned in the direction of the school behind her, the direction he had been walking away from. "My current business is not so important that I cannot stop to help a young lady," he replied finally, looking back at her. "Where would you like to go first?"
"I'm looking for the Magnet High School...It's called...Caspian?" She looked at him uncertainly, unsure if he was being truthful about having the time to help her. He certainly seemed like he had bigger and better things than to direct some insignificant transfer student who should have picked up a welcome pamphlet on her way off the train.
If Kain had truly felt his current business was "very important" he would have, in no uncertain terms, expressed his need to get away as such. However, it would be rude of him to rub her off when he really was only going to the store for...nothing important. He had all day.
Again the unarmored Dragoon glanced in the direction behind Chie's shoulder. With a nod in said direction he waved a hand palm up and out to indicate they should walk. "It is next to college itself. All of the campus is in one large grouping, including the college class buildings, the magnet school with its own separate building, and library." He spoke lightly, and without any sort of air except perhaps simple usefulness.
He could have pointed her in the right direction to get a pamphlet instead, but he didn't. He was going to show her the way the 'old fashioned way.'
Chie was clearly thankful for the direction, though perhaps not completely comfortable yet with her guide. The man was so imposing and handsome, like the kind of prince her friend Yukiko's Shadow had wished for. Yukiko. The tomboy thought regretfully, missing her friend and the support they provided each other. This tour wouldn't have been nearly as awkward or intimidating if she hadn't been alone.
"O-okay." The girl responded automatically, trying not to sound as if she were distracted by a sudden on-set of homesickness. Geez! And it was only the first day! Chie pushed aside the urge to despair and focused on Kain's helpful directions.
Kain ignored the obvious signs of something troubling the young girl. It was none of his business to pry into such things. He could only tell because his sharp eye caught the subtle expressions, body movements, and his ears the tone of what could only be one thing: distress. At the least, it was something she was willing to try and hide and therefore couldn't be too troubling, yes? She would be fine without him being nosy.
They continued towards the school and soon it became apparent which exactly building, or set of buildings to be precise, that it was. Kain did not speak again until then, which technically wasn't too long.
"Both the housing and the magnet school are near the north end of the campus. That would be on the opposite side from here," he told her. "Is that where you would like to go? Which first?"
"I-I don't know. I guess I should stop at the school first, y'know, to check in and make sure all my transfer stuff went through alright." She gave a little shrug, chuckling nervously. "So um... what do you do for a living? Oh! If that isn't too personal a question!"
Kain looked down at her for a moment then they began to move forward again. "I am a Dragoon of Baron; a Dragon Knight, personal guards to the King of Baron. I was away on special training when I received the invite to this place. I have come to study what this mysterious place offers."
"Oh." Chie didn't know what to say to that. She hadn't been expecting that sort of answer, even if the man did carry himself like a knight out of a popular evening anime program. It was too bad she wasn't into those programs like she was into kung-fu movies. No doubt she would be fan-girling, to meet a real Knight in Shining Armor(tm). Instead, Chie just felt a little bit more out of place. That 'meeting people from other worlds' hadn't just been creative advertising then.
Kain tilted his head to the side a bit in contemplation. He did not get to attend many classes before they ended for the year, and he had not signed up for summer classes yet. He would likely have to wait for the second short summer semester before continuing. However, that did not mean he hadn't learned anything new here.
But the things he had--would it sound silly to this girl? It seemed common knowledge to most people from similar worlds. Still--she had asked.
"Not much. But know of electronics and computers now. Handy." He glanced down. Judging her reaction? "I believe I may know what I wish to study in the fall, if nothing else."
The casual conversation seemed to ease Chie's nervousness. She slipped effortlessly into a more friendly mode of speech, one that seemed much more natural to her personality. "I can't imagine life without the internet, computers...movies..." She grinned up at the Dragon Knight. "Ever watched any kung-fu?"
"'Kung...fu'? he repeated somewhat awkwardly. He peered down at her with a mix of wrinkled brow and one eyebrow slightly raised as if his face couldn't decide which it wanted to settle on. He obviously had no clue what she was talking about.
The girl stopped instantly, mouth opening wide in shock and horror as she turned to look at Kain. "WHAT!?" Her incredulous cry caught several passerby's attentions and they turned to look at the unusual pair as they walked by. "Y-You don't know what kung-fu is!? Oh no... we have to fix this right away!" And without a word of warning she grabbed Kain by the wrist and began to drag him off. Well- she tried. She was pulled up short almost immediately because she had reached the maximum length of his arm and he was strong enough to not be yanked over by her tomboyish exuberance.
She looked up at him sheepishly, blushing red as she tugged at his hand. "Please? I swear you won't regret it! I've got to show you!"
Kain was startled by the outburst and he stopped suddenly in his tracks to stare at her in surprise. When she tugged on his arm he didn't budge and hardly even swayed from the force working on him. He frowned.
What she asked was harmless enough, yes? But--she didn't even know where she was going. "What exactly are you going to show me? ...And where?"
She pondered his words, expression slightly vacant as she mulled over his reasonable questions. Then her mouth made a sudden 'O' of understanding, and the girl looked even more embarrassed. Yet somehow, whatever it was that she desired, she wanted it enough to not give up despite the possible hurtles that had presented themselves.
"Oh right...um... well I suppose we'll have to stop at a movie rental place, and then we'll have to find a tv and dvd player in a spare classroom...or the library or something." Brown eyes looked up at him almost pleadingly.
