Students were meant to visit the library, correct? In the name of the higher power, she believed she could annihilate the potential of the student population that would wander into that area. Those who used analysis and logic to make their decisions were likely to be threats to the Higher One's bidding. Those were the the largest threat. They would need to be settled with quickly.
Rapier in hand, Eirika, the former princess of Renais, the present queen of Frelia, stood guard to the doors of the library. She donned her armour, glistening breastplate, eyes that resembled the eerie shades of the moon, and her tiara that marked her royalty. Plastered across her face was an expression of utter delight, one that could only be defined as upon the edge of madness.
She was ready. She was prepared. The Higher One would grant her the powers to revolutionise the world the side of the one who commanded her.
Seth had made it a habit to be close to his Queen, even when she slept. A royalty had enemies, even if well loved and popular. And of course, the anomalies had made him mode cautious and vigilant with his nightly patrols.
The knight's initial reaction was to let Eirika be, but when he saw her expression, and those eyes, he was certain something was wrong. Seth took a deep breath, before stepping out into full view in front of her, donned in his usual black outfit with the assorted armored pieces.
To say that there was no recognition would have been a lie. Eirika knew well enough who Seth was, and what his position was as her retainer and a loyal knight of... Frelia.
Her arrogance, driven by the choosing from the Higher Power, seemed to seep from every pore. She looked to the knight briefly and then lifted her rapier.
"Tell me, Seth. Who do you think would make a worthy sacrifice?" She could stand to grow irritable later. Perhaps.
"For him, of course. For her. For it," she replied rather matter-of-factly, as though she was surprised he held no knowledge of whom she spoke.
She eyed her blade for just a moment and then tipped her head forward and broke into laughter. Then she straightened her posture and stood her ground. "For it, I will gladly sacrifice those that cross the pathway here. Intellect is a threat." She growled, "A very dangerous threat."
"For it? For who, my Queen? And why does he, she, or it requires a sacrifice?"
The knight tilted his head, looking at her curiously. He offered a slight shrug, and commented, "You are a intelligent woman, my Queen, are you a dangerous threat?"
She laughed once more. "Nonsense. I am in service to the Higher Power. It has been bestowed upon me, a great gift. It is imperative that I follow the will that is absolute. This means those who will stop me..."
She brandished her rapier once more and she nodded, "...they must pay. With their lives. I will stand for no intolerance. Those who study, and those who research will come here looking for the answers to the questions they have. In that respect, they will be the ones I must watch for. They will be the ones I kill. And afterward, I will pursue all of the others."
Then she shook her head, "Nonsense. The Everlasting. You are such a fool. Of course, however, you have not been chosen to lead the others to the new world. What a shame. That makes you the opposition."
"SETH!" A voice from behind came. The knight devout heard the commotion and immediately for the first place he noticed. The library. He hadn't been back at his living quarters so he was still around. What he was doing, no one really should be asking. He arrived momentarily at Seth's side and noticed that Eirika had glowing green eyes.
"Seth, you must take caution. Your queen does not appear to be herself. Some entity hath possessed her." Zalbag got his Excalibur sword ready in case something happened. He was going to do all he can to make sure she isn't harmed.
Eirika had every intent of telling Seth to simply kill himself for her. That was the ultimate test of loyalty, wasn't it? That was what she told herself. And it would save her the difficulty of killing him herself. Queen hands were not suited for bloodshed. She was too perfect for that.
The second voice she heard registered as familiar to her. She knew the face as well. Bringing her blade in his direction instead, she paused. "You... Lord Zalbag Beoulve. The young lord of Ivalice. What brings you to my footpath? Are you to oppose me as well?"
That blonde had ruined his plans. Innes had hoped Eirika would off Seth (or at least wound him) and Innes would come to her rescue, to confort her and bring her back. But that was foiled.
Innes stepped out of the shadows, playing with an arrow in his hand, his bow quite ready for use in the other. "She is most definitely possessed," Innes agreed. "Perhaps we should knock her unconscious." He frowned. "But kill her and mark my words I will plunge an arrow through your heart."
"Lord Zalbag, King Innes," he nodded at them in acknowledgement. He might not quite agree with how things had proceeded before, but courtesy was something that could not be forgo.
"No one will be killing anyone, King Innes. I will not let anyone hurt her. Though I advice for you and Lord Zalbag to look for this... it she refers to."

Those eyes... Something was wrong, very wrong. Seth watched her carefully, even as he kept his tone respectful. He needed more information.

Perhaps if he played along, she would be inclined to return.
