Stayed up til 6am this morning to complete an assignment on MMORPGS. Why yes, I love what I do, especially when in the course of research I find that my university library holds a copy of a book dedicated to Pokemon. POKEMON, I ask you. Also, a student in my university got funded by the Sumitomo Corporation to write a book on the effects of Japanese videogame culture on my country. Assignment complete, and I would completely go and play Abyss except for the fact that staring at the computer screen and working for so long has gave me a nasty headache and giddiness that refuses to go away, even some twelve hours later. Couldn't take painkillers for six hours of that lovely experience because I didn't want to fall asleep on the assignment. Left the house for lunch and soon realised it was a bad, bad idea. I can push myself far enough, but sometimes the body isn't having any of it.
Also, playing Abyss makes me dream about constititional law. Got up to the Desert Oasis with my brother last Saturday night, almost dropped the console when we got that Asch-in-the-rain cutscene, because I seriously wasn't expecting it, and then went to bed and dreamt I was about to sit for my constitutional law exam. It's like whenever I play three hours of Abyss in a sitting - I'll be overcome by the sudden need to study. Oh, studying law is a demon sometimes, why can't I quit you. *grin* But you know, the best part of it is, you'll be groggy and barely able to stand after three days of intensive paper-writing, and you still are so damned glad you're doing this. At least, I am. And so happy that the assignment is out of the way so I can focus on studying for my exams. For a time all I could do was live, breathe and think this assignment.
If Asch and Luke were a branch of law, they would be the tort of passing off. Yes, I do these things with my free thinking time. And also, when I finally write Axel/Sora fic, it will be called
Force Majeure. What's the point of two years of contract law if you aren't going to title Kingdom Hearts fic after it? *glee* This also reminds me that I'll one day need to type up and post the Replica/Sora fic I wrote after one law student party where I received a through education on the numerous ways in which one can conceal the true alcohol content of the drinks and snacks one gives one's guests. Tip: Lots of sugar, jelly, and syrup. And it won't even feel like you're drinking that much until the alcohol hits later. >D IT WAS GOOD FUN. In university I learned that the three classes of students who drink the most, in descending order, are the vets, the medics, and then, the lawyers. It's all true. In a friend's university, the vets used to hold the wildest parties, and run out after them to tip cows in the cornfields.
Also it is a terrible thing sometimes when I'm writing Abyss fanfiction, and intend to write about Asch yelling at Luke for a - and instead of writing transgression like I mean to, I think infringement and for a time, for the life of me, can't think of any other word that would be more appropriate.
Also, in the course of research I turned up something fascinating. Psychology students and Abyss fans might be interested in the work of a certain Solomon E. Asch, who wrote the famous paper
Opinions and Social Pressure, and devised the
Asch conformity test. I just thought it'd be terribly fun to cite Asch in a school paper. So you can say every time you agree with someone else, you're giving in to the
Asch effect. Now that site in particular has a fascinating summary on the number of subsequent attempts to replicate Asch. No, really. It's amazing what you can find off 4chan.
The second Kingdom Hearts II: Chain of Memories book is out in English! Got it on the probably ill-advised trip out of the house today. Newsagent guy who sold it to me was very entertaining. "You must have been waiting for this for a long time!" he said, as he sold it to me. "This just came in last night!" The only way he could have guessed that is that I must have done a very poor job of concealing my enthusiasm.
pic_murasaki linked the new Abyss Drama CD cover
here, and
meimi wrote excellent Abyss fanfiction
here. And also, there is an Abyss-Symphonia crossover
here. I firmly believe a fandom can't say it's made it until it has a high-school AU and crossovers, and Abyss at last has both! (Do bear in mind that good fanfiction makes me VERY HAPPY, and bad fanfiction makes me EVEN HAPPIER)
I want to post pictures from Kyoto, but I am feeling spectacularly un-up-to-it now. Also it seems every time I talk to
anyasy about FF12 Ashe and Basch get the same, new, identical, name. xD
