I guess it's been long enough....
Some of my friends are aware of my country phase. It lasted from high school until my marriage to Robert started to fall apart. I was especially a huge fan of Garth Brooks. I still have all his CDs up until Scarecrow (I don't even know if he's done anything since then) including the CD from his alter-ego Chris Gaines. I haven't been able to listen to any country for years. It was too closely tied to the bad memories and hurts and the time in my life when I wasn't true to myself. But the fact is that I actually DO like SOME country. Including Garth Brooks... today, my folk/bluegrass Pandora station played one of my old favorite Garth Brooks songs... and I enjoyed it.. without the usual accompanying bad memories and pain. I can imagine that there a few songs I still can't listen to, but on the whole, I think I can finally start to enjoy the limited country that I really did love.
