LittleOne had her first day of daycare today and it was a big success! She was actually a little nervous this morning while we were getting ready to go. We'd been talking about going to school all week, but she could tell something was different this morning, and she said she didn't want to go. I told her to just try it and she could come home if she didn't like it. By the time I got her in the car, though, she was already excited.
Her group was in the play room when we got there, and any fear was forgotten. she rushed in and started playing right away. While I filled out papers in the office, her group walked by on their way back to their room, and she was holding the teacher's hand. I went down to see them and another little girl in the 'class' came right up to me: "see her?" (pointing to LittleOne) "she's my new friend." As I was leaving, they were getting ready for reading time, and the same girl, reserving a chair beside her, called out, "c'mere, LittleOne! Come sit with me!" I left her in good hands.
When I came back, everyone was sleeping. Including my nap-protesting kid.
When I walked into the room an hour later (having had time for a trip to the hairdresser and the farmer's market), she came running to me, very excited to see me, calling "mama, mama!" She was ready to go home, but very excited to come back tomorrow and jabbered all the way home about singing songs and reading stories and playing with the kids (including the aforementioned girl whom she knew by name).
I did well too, although I wasn't nervous or anything. I was relieved to drop her off, and so happy to see that she had such a good time. Finally, I can have a life! Sadly, today's Spanish class was canceled, so no new vocabulary for me. It would have been helpful. I received another incomprehensible email from my Ecuadorian brother today.
Also a good potty training day. Two accidents (one of each variety), and four on-toilet successes. Atta girl!
