It seems that the 'writers' of Pirates III are now saying that we are meant to understand that Will can return to land *permanently* after ten years at sea, provided his love has remained true. Nice of them to clarify that little loophole, which was not in the movie at all. Interesting that this doesn't seem to be the case for Jones; I think he'd have been trapped on the Dutchman regardless. And who captains said ship when Will returns to life? Does he get his heart back? Whose heart goes into the chest? Does the heart need to be in a chest, since we were led to believe in Pirates II that Davey Jones cut his heart out *after* his lover betrayed him, which was ten years after he took the job as the Dutchman captain? Just weak storytelling, that.
Here's the problem, folks: when you make a movie, you have one job to do. You have to tell a story. That's what we want. That's why we pay you the big bucks. We don't want to see special effects without purpose (at least, I don't. some like that sort of thing I suppose). If you can't tell a story, then don't make the movie yet. All the special effects and piles of crabs and multiple JohnnyDepps in the world won't save you if you can't tell the story from start to finish.
And speaking of Johnny, what a boring and pointless MTV movie awards show. Glad we TiVoed it and could fast forward all the stuff. Like everything without Sarah Silverman. So Pirates II wins best pic. Guess the MTV crowd hasn't seen III yet. I agree with Depp winning best performance; he made Pirates II what it was, and it isn't his fault that III sucked pond water.
