Remember
today is september 11.
I was asked this morning to take a few seconds to reflect on the events of 9-11-01. Unlike many classmates who simply continued scribbling in their notebooks, I actually did so. I believe itt to be a worthwhile undertaking.
I thought about my friend who was terrified that day that her father had been killed, who had just arrived on a new campus and had no one to give her a hug. I thought about all the other people who actually lost friends and family. People who are ill now because of involvement in the rescue efforts. People who have died in a foolish war prompted by far more than a single terrorist act. the hypocrisy of a government that has done terrible things in the name of freedom.
I think about our past, the events that my generation will never forget. I think about the future, the things my children will remember.
I hope desparately that we will not repeat the mistakes of the past, and that we may rectify some of the injustices we have created.
I fear that we cannot. many things are broken....things hard to fix.
