Finally a night off, and the day after. I was feeling tired after the training week and I went for a walk in the city, like I sometimes do. I ended up in Southwark.
I am wasting my free time at the bar. Not many people here, just a few random citizens who came to keep themselves dry and some boys keeping to themselves in the corner, dressed in brown, platform soles in their feet. And the band, playing swinging rock no one pays attention to. It is pouring like it hasn't in a while, and that has made people seek refuge where ever they can. Rain water tastes acidic and makes your skin numb, and the officials suggest that you avoid exposure if possible. So it looks like we're stuck here for a long time, since it doesn't look like the rain is going to stop soon. Fine by me, especially if they keep serving.
For some unknown reason, I glance around an see Ana stepping in from the rain. She notices me and sits beside me at the counter.
“I thought I heard you were on holiday. Where you come from?” I asked.
“Greece. Let me buy you a drink.”
“How did you afford that?” I asked, knowing she didn't get paid all that much and trying to avoid the offer.
“Easy. My dad is loaded.”.
“In that case I'll have a rum and coca-cola.” Relieved to know she wasn't on dire straits after all.
“Fine.”
