The first time Lu Han meets Minseok, he is dressed head to toe in navy except for the white number 19 on his back and white socks. Lu Han is dressed all in blue, and has sweat streaming down his face and neck in rivers. Minseok looks barely winded, and gives him an appraising look as he holds out a hand.
"Nice try," he says, sounding like he actually means it.
Lu Han bares his teeth and smacks his hand away because he does not need any help from members of the opposing team. For the time being, Minseok is the enemy.
With a lot more effort than he would have liked to admit to, Lu Han heaves himself to his feet. He has lost the ball, thanks to Minseok, but the game has moved on. Without a second glance at the other player, Lu Han sprints off after the ball.
Lu Han's school loses that day and drops out of the running for the regional championships. Disappointed, Lu Han leaves with Kim Minseok's attractive smile burned into the back of his mind.

When Minseok’s best friend Jongdae finally gets a boyfriend, Minseok is less than happy. He’s glad that Jongdae has managed to find some poor misguided soul willing to deal with him, but he is not amused by the new, constant nagging.
“You need a love life,” Jongdae says, pushing a steaming peppermint mocha across the table. “I think you’re lonely, Minseok, and that is why you are a bitter caveman who has no friends.”
“What does that make you?” Minseok counters, squinted at him.
Jongdae sighs theatrically. “You think we’re friends? Just because I put up with you on a daily basis?”
“Funny,” Minseok coughs, “I was about to say in the same thing,”
They fall into a comfortable silence, sipping coffee and watching the tall, flustered new cashier deal with the cash register. Christmas music drifts over speakers, and Minseok feels very calm and relaxed until -
“I know there’s someone out there for you,” Jongdae says suddenly. “How about that one guy in our Chemistry class? The one with the dimple and - ”
“No,” Minseok replies immediately. “I’m meant to be happily single.”
“Don’t be stupid.” Jongdae puts down his drink, and points to the door. “The next guy that walks through that door could be The One.”
At that exact moment, the bell above the door jingles, and it swings open. The first person to walk through has his face down, tucked into his scarf. A much taller male trails after him, nudging the first further into the cafe toward the warmth.
Then, the first guy looks up, and Minseok’s eyes are greeted with soft blond hair, big brown eyes, and the most adorable pout he has ever seen. The guy’s nose and cheeks are pink from the cold, but his face is still animated, alive. Then, he looks gazes with Minseok and for a second, Minseok forgets to breathe and just tries to count the sparkles in his eye.
The blond blinks for a moment, before blushing and looking away.
“See?” Jongdae says gleefully. “He’s perfect. And look, he’s wearing our school’s logo so he must go to our school. You guys should run into each other at a party, get drunk, have terrific sex, get married, and live happily ever after.”
Minseok reaches over the table and smacks Jongdae over the head. “Get your head out of the gutter,” he snaps, feigning annoyance. Still, however, he couldn’t help but sneak another glance at the blond. To his surprise, and amusement, the blond is also looking at him. Their eyes meet for another brief second before the blond offers up a smile and drops his gaze shyly.
Maybe Jongdae’s plan wasn’t so bad after all.

When Minseok is sad, he likes to drowned his feelings in a tub of Haagen-Dazs. When Lu Han finds him, he simply refrigerates the ice cream and envelopes him in a warm, comforting hug.
“You need warmth to chase away sadness, Minseokkie; not cold.”

At first, Minseok vehemently objects to Lu Han’s demand for him to take cooking classes.
“I don’t want to” is his only excuse.
“You need to,” Lu Han repeats firmly. “One of us needs to or we’re either going to go broke from eating out so much or die of starvation or malnutrition because neither of us can cook anything eatable. You’re the only one with free time and I don’t want to die, thank you very much.”
Minseok puffs out his cheeks in annoyance. “So on the only day that I finish classes early, I have to go to another class?”
“Yes,” Lu Han confirms. He stops for a second and gets a sultry look in his eye. “If you do well, I’ll reward you,” he says, dropping his voice and putting a hand lightly on his boyfriend’s thigh.
Minseok’s eyes widen. Cooking class it is, then, he thinks. So worth it.

Lu Han is given fifteen minutes to say goodbye. He spends ten of them with his crying family, but saves the last five to be alone with Minseok.
“Be safe,” Minseok says, stiffly. He doesn’t want to cry;, doesn’t want to think about the possibility that Lu Han might never come back.
Lu Han’s laugh is a little derisive but he moves forward to pull Minseok into his arms. “I’m not coming back, am I,” he says, sounding hollow.
Minseok refuses to believe it. “No,” he says, reaching up to cup Lu Han’s face gently. “They’re all going to underestimate you. They don’t know that you’re agile, fast, smart, and good with a bow and arrow. Use that to your advantage; remember who your real enemies are.”
Lu Han takes a shuddering breath and nods slowly, leaning forward and ghosting his lips over Minseok’s.
“Come back to me safely,” Minseok breathes, closing the distance. The kiss starts off soft, but ends in desperation and tears. “Please, come back to me.” He tastes his own tears, mixed with that is his lover’s, and it only makes him clutch harder to Lu Han’s entire being.
Then, the fifteen minutes are over, and Lu Han is being lead away, away to the Capitol to participate in the 75th Hunger Games.

Minseok wakes up with a pounding headache, dry mouth, and no pants or recollections of how he got home last night. He chugs down a bottle of water with an aspirin and downs another half carton of orange juice, no pulp. Is it then that he finds the two polaroids on his kitchen counter along with a sticky note.
This is how you got home last night. Real classy, Minseok. Also, you took your pants off in the middle of the street. No more Bacardi for you. xoxo - L.H.
Minseok holds up the polaroids and tried not to facepalm. The first picture is taken from inside the backseat of a car, and he can clearly see his foot hanging over the seat. It seems that he had fallen out of the car. The other picture shows his pants lying on the ground, along with a blurry bare leg in one corner.
Minseok never wants another shot ever again.

When Minseok first puts the “Now Hiring” sign outside of his coffee shop, he had never expected to hire someone quite like Lu Han. When the blond first walked in, setting the bells above the door tinkering, Minseok had thought he was a student from the nearby college, looking for a job. He was fully intent on hiring him as a waiter, but was pleasantly surprised to learn that Lu Han was barely younger than him, and was a trained barista.
“They still ask to see my ID when I buy alcohol,” Lu Han had admitted with a disgruntled sigh. “I’m 23, dammit.”
“Having looks of eternal youth is a good thing,” Minseok replied with a smile.
Now, almost a year later, things are different.
When Minseok wakes up in the mornings, he is no longer alone. Lu Han is curled into the white blankets next to him, snuggled against his side. Minseok wakes Lu Han up with gentle touches and soft kisses before stepping into the bathroom for a shower. When he enters the kitchen all dressed and ready to open up shop, he always finds a cup of steaming caffe macchiato waiting for on the counter just how he likes it, foam in the shape of a heart. Lu Han is at the table, sipping his own coffee.
“Morning,” Minseok calls.
Lu Han turns, and the corners of his eyes crinkle into a smile. How breathtakingly beautiful, Minseok thinks. Even to this day, he has never regretted hiring the blond haired angel.

When Lu Han looks down, he sees that Minseok has his eyes closed, and is smiling peacefully.
“What are you thinking about?” Lu Han whispers.
Minseok doesn’t open his eyes, but turns his face towards Lu Han. “That with you is here I belong,” he replies.
Lu Han falls a bit more deeper in love.

The snow falling around them picks up speed as Minseok stands, staring at his lover. He doesn’t feel the chill from the winter air because of the coldness in his heart.
“I’m sorry.” Lu Han’s voice is broken, and a tear slides down his face. “He didn’t mean anything, Min. Please, please...”
Minseok searches in his heart for forgiveness but finds nothing.
