SAN DIEGO -- A teenage girl died Wednesday of a suspected drug overdose, and her 19-year-old boyfriend was arrested on suspicion of causing her death, police said.

Officers were called to the 2400 block of F Street in Golden Hill at 5:26 a.m. on a report of a non-breathing female, according to San Diego police Lt. Kevin Rooney.

Paramedics attempted to revive 16-year-old Dana Hooter, but she was pronounced dead at the scene, the lieutenant said.

An investigation revealed that the girl's boyfriend, Erin Correa, allegedly gave her an injection of a "street drug," Rooney said. He declined to say what type of drug was involved.

A Medical Examiner's investigator said an autopsy will most likely be performed Thursday morning to confirm the cause of death.

Correa will be booked into the county jail on suspicion of murder, Rooney said.
