Character Info
Character Name: Yosuke Hanamura
Character’s Age: 17
Fandom: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4
Timeline: Post-True Ending
Appearance: Yosuke is a tall, somewhat lanky youth with an awkward and exaggerated air about him. He tends to move about in an exaggerated manner to call extra attention to himself when his height and shock of bright red/brown hair just aren't enough. There is usually a smile on his face, though a strained, irritated look is also not in the least very uncommon.

History: A link, have one.

Personality: Yosuke is the quintessential loser. Whenever something bad can possibly happen to him, it usually happens. He's awkward, he's clumsy, and for some reason, he tends to get frequently injured in freak accidents that can be attributed solely to bad luck. Due to all of these terrible qualities, Yosuke firmly believes the world, nay, the universe itself is out to get him, just for a laugh. He's definitely a 'glass is half empty' kind of guy in almost every situation.

Despite all this, Yosuke isn't as emo as one would initially expect. He keeps an upbeat, happy attitude, spiked only occasionally with bouts of extreme cynicism. He's learned to laugh at himself, twisting his awful luck and tendency toward injury to make himself look like a bit of a clown. This image is carefully cultivated, sometimes on purpose and sometimes entirely by accident. He puts on a happy face for the world around him, especially for strangers, and is swift to attempt to move in and turn a person from an unknown into a friend. Once he's decided he likes you, Yosuke will stick by you for life, or at least until he gets some sort of clue that you don't actually like him all that much.

Deep inside, though, Yosuke is terribly lonely, with little aptitude whatsoever toward actually connecting to anyone beyond a superficial level. Yosuke doesn't want attention so much as he needs it: to be the center of everyone's world and the guy everyone knows they can always turn or look up to. Unfortunately, he lacks significant social skills and has a hard time opening up to show someone how he really is. People are frightening when you start getting into the little details of your life, and though he'll do everything he can to get you to pay attention and speak to him, he'll be on tenterhooks the whole time to make sure it's a positive impression.

When he lived in a big city, before moving to Inaba, Yosuke was able to drown out his loneliness by surrounding himself with people. In Inaba, a tiny, tiny town, he couldn't do this anymore. There just weren't enough faces to go around, and to top that off, many people outright hated him for his father's store. Though he formed a couple friendships with a handful of people, there were frequent times when he was absolutely crushed by the feeling that he was alone in the world. Thanks to his true bonds with Souji Seta and the other members of the Investigation Team, his issues concerning being alone have taken a mighty beating, but he's still the kind of guy that will go to a party, invited or not, just to be around as many people as he can.

Powers/Abilities: Yosuke possesses the power of Persona. He can manifest his inner strength as a physical entity, a representation of the god Susano-o, and use him to either physically attack or use various magic-like abilities. Unlike most Personas, Susano-o is intentionally designed as a jack of all trades rather than specialized in its utility. His Persona confers enhanced strength and resilience in combat as well as immunity to Wind-based damage of all kinds. Other specific abilities are:

- Brave Blade, a massive physical strike on a single opponent with Susano-o's giant buzz-saw
- Garudyne, an immense blast of wind strong enough to flay the flesh off a single opponent
- Magarudyne, an even larger wind gust that can hit multiple opponents
- Masukukaja, a spell that temporarily, greatly increases the reflexes of nearby allies
- Wind Amp, an always-on ability that further increases the power of his wind-based spells
- Wind Break, a spell to nullify an enemy's resistance to wind damage temporarily
- Diarama, a spell that heals moderate damage on a single ally
- Dekaja, a spell to nullify any enemy magic that enhances their physical abilities

Limitations: Most of Yosuke's abilities are taking a turn with the nerf bat. (Ma)Garudyne is being reduced to (Ma)Garula, a lesser version of the spell, and likewise Brave Blade is reduced to the much weaker Sonic Punch. Masukukaja is being changed to simply Sukukaja, to empower a single ally at a time rather than all. Rather than being immune to wind-based damage, he's simply highly-resistant. To keep him from being completely depowered to the point of uselessness, and to reflect Yosuke's status as a support-type character, his other powers will remain intact.

In addition to these power reductions, Yosuke's reserve of Spirit Power is reduced. This means he can use his magic-based abilities far less than usual before feeling mentally exhausted and unable to continue casting spells. Up to 2 or 3 castings of Magarula, at most, will result in Susano-o being good for little more than physical attacks (that, themselves, are physically taxing on him) until he can rest.

Log/Third Person Sample:

Nothing sucked more than having your music cut off at an inopportune time. Sequestered in his room and cloistered in a cocoon of aural bliss, Yosuke had actually been enjoying himself for once as he was doing homework. Him, Yosuke Hanamura, having a good time while doing school work, it was a small miracle that could was entirely owed to the tunes blasting through his room. Up until only a few moments ago, the dulcet tones of Rise Kujikawa's voice had filled the air, fresh from a mint copy of her very first album, the CD bearing a genuine autograph from the idol herself. It helped that he was one of Rise's best friends now, and he was going to be endlessly joyful for that fact, but Yosuke could still hardly believe he had a signed copy of Risette's debut album!

And it just cut out. Yosuke blinked a few times and turned toward his CD player. The player simply abided: the lights and numbers on the front were off, and not a peep was coming out of it. The teen grumbled sharply as he rose from his seat and walked the few feet toward where the bulky stereo box sat and jabbed the power button. Nothing happened, and he jabbed it again to the same result. "God dammit..." he grumbled under his breath as he turned the troublesome machine around and opened the back up to pull out the batteries. Working at Junes had its advantages, but buying these cheap-ass batteries in order to promote store unity or whatever his dad called it was going to drive him insane. Luckily, he still had another bunch in his drawer, and in a few seconds, he'd have those sweet lyrics from the sweetest girl back where he could hear them.

Or he would have, if Yosuke hadn't tripped on the way back. A stray sock left on the floor caused the gangly teen to slip, and he plunged forward after trying unsuccessfully to get his balance back to bang his forehead on his desk. One vulgar outcry later, and a sudden fierce headache, he clutched at his head and hissed in pain. Why did this crap keep happening to him, seriously? What did he do to deserve it? Still wincing, Yosuke reached to pull open his top drawer and pulled out the package of batteries blindly from the floor, then turned to crawl toward his prize...

...Only to find he only had three batteries left, and the player needed four. Wordlessly, he dropped his shoulders and sighed.

Journal Entry/First Person Sample:

[A somewhat panicky, teenage male voice comes on over the phone...]

Hey, a Call All button! Why not! So, I'm hallucinating, right? Went completely insane, and I didn't fall into yet another alternate universe?

Because I think that's the only other way I could go from walking around during a beautiful spring day to suddenly finding myself no longer in Japan and ass-deep in snow!

Seriously. Someone. Anyone. Just tell me how to wake up, alright? I'd really love to wake up right now! There's shit I'd like to do other than freeze and wonder what dimensional wormhole I just stepped through! I thought we were done with this crap! Hey, uh, no one's been murdered recently, right? Or if they have, no bodies on telephone poles or antennas? Please tell me there are no bodies on antennas, please!
