I don't know anything about hair extensions, but I absolutely love MAC makeup. It's expensive though. The waterproof mascara is really good. I have a BAD habit of wiping my eyes constant but the mascara hold up very well. Their foundation is really nice as well - it depends on which one you need for your skin. I use moisturizer under my foundation and it holds a lot better and allows for a more even application. And just for reference I have oily to normal skin :-D
Honestly I would *never* expect any makeup to look good after swimming. I don't think it's a realistic expectation of a product to stay on while it's submerged, even waterproof mascara. Sweat's easier but still hard. My recommendations are...
foundation - estee lauder doublewear liquid. Pricey ($32.50 I believe) but worth every penny, and a huge variety of shades for us hard to match gals.
eyeliner - mark on the edge liquid eyeliner for idiot-proof's sake. it's easy to apply and stays put decently. however it really doesn't match th staying power of a MAC fluidline, but those are gel not liquid or pencil.
eyebrow - shu uemura brow pencil. <3
lipstick - MAC, especially the satin, mattene, or amplified cream formulas.
Another idea is to try theatre makeup since it's designed to be worn under hot stage lights. Camerareadycosmetics.com may be of assistance to you there.
A few I like are mark. make it big (this lasts through crying, I can personally attest to that!), maybelline full 'n soft waterproof, and NYX Doll Eyes volume lash. :)
