Traditional readings For this day of advent:
Zephaniah 3:1-2, 9-13; Matthew 21:28-32

Today's prayer:

Father of love,
you made a new creation
through Jesus Christ your son.
May his coming free us from sin
and renew his life within us,
for he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit
one God, forever and ever.

Today's moment of reflection:
On this day we are reminded that a "yes" to God can be meaningless if it is not backed by action and work. It is easy to be like the second son in the parable, who answers, "yes, I will go and work in the vineyard" and then does not. How many of us have talents that go unused? How many of us watch quietly while others get involved in the messier business of influencing other people and judging right from wrong?

There are not enough of us in the vineyard. May we have the courage to make that "Yes, Lord" meaningful.

Recipe of the day:

Wassail Punch

1 1/2 cups white sugar
8 whole cloves
3 cups water
3 cinnamon sticks
1 1/2 cups orange juice
1 cup lemon juice
1 gallon apple juice

In a saucepan, combine the sugar, cloves, water, and cinnamon. Bring to a boil, and continue to boil for 10 minutes. Remove from heat, cover, and allow to cool for 1 hour.
Stir in the orange juice, lemon juice, and apple juice. Return to the heat, and boil for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove cloves and cinnamon sticks before serving.
