Neck Steek tutorial?

Feb 04, 2009 14:05

My husband wants a Fair Isle patterned vest with a v-neck. I haven't done a neck steek before, and though I've pored through all my home resources, I can't seem to find any clear directions for designing and steeking a v-neck. Can anyone out there point me to a resource? I don't mind buying a book, but I've been all through Starmore and Feitelson ( Read more... )

It's not Fair Isle, but I wonder if this pattern might be helpful: a striped steeked v-necked vest with links to steeking instructions.

This and Eunny Jang's steek tutorials really helped. I also found all the information I needed in Starmore's Fair Isle book-- I just wasn't looking for it correctly in the first instance. So in between the time I sent this message for posting and the time it actually got posted, I made a prototype for my teddy bear, of course, and I've now started on the actual garment.

the celtic collection has fair isle vest patterns. or at least stranded, so there are steeks.

One thing I discovered while searching around was Eunny Jang's steeking chronicles. Do you have EZ? I've been re-reading all her books. There are quite nice directions for a steeked v-neck in one of them, either Knitting Around or The Opinionated Knitter.

I should really replace my copy of Knitting Around; I noticed that I Knit London had several last night, but bought something else, instead. ;)

Ah good, I'm glad you solved it. In light of day and with coffee at hand I was prepared to speed-read both books to find the exact cite for you.
