Stretchy bind-off for sock cuff?

I'm looking for an attractive, stretchy bind-off for the tops of my Monkey socks. I am using handspun to knit the socks, so I did a provisional cast-on when I started, so I would have the opportunity to use a different yarn if need be for the ribbing. I found a pretty eyelet rib that works with the socks, but I'm running up against a wall to find a good way to bind off that won't strangle my large calves. I'm aware of the whole 'use a needle larger than the rest of the project' thing--I just want something more interesting than a standard bind-off.

While I do have the Twisted Sisters' Sock Workbook (and I LOVE it), I can't seem to get the hang of the sewn bind-off. I keep wanting to Kitchener it, which is NOT the effect I'm going for! ;)

I have already tried a crocheted bind-off using 3ch between each stitch, which worked nicely on another pair of socks but just doesn't go with these. I think it's because the Monkey pattern is so very heavily patterned, plus my yarn is variegated, and it looks too busy.

Sorry if I'm being a little vague here, but I'm just tired of ripping back my handspun. Heck, I've even looked in my Edge books to see if there were any cool ribs I could use, but they all go the wrong direction. All the cute picots and scallops are worked from the cast-on edge DOWN, and they don't reverse very well. Plus I still end up with sts to bind off.

What do you suggest, O Advanced_Knitters?
