He would have to make a decision soon, one way or the other. The implications of his choice would be extensive, either option opening up vistas of quantum possibilities and irrevocably closing off others equally vast, but the wave function of this one had yet to be collapsed. Time's inexorable passage would force his hand eventually, but he would prefer to be in control of his own destiny. After all, what was the use of being given a choice if you were not going to take it? Perhaps the ramifications of this moment would not be nearly as significant as he was imagining. Consoling himself with this thought, he finally made up his mind about the matter. He would put on his left shoe first, then the right.
