Love in Hexasyllables XXVI: Virtually Yours

Feb 14, 2008 16:23

I

Am I more real when
You fly across oceans
To meet with kith and kin,
But just an afterthought -
At best - at other times?
It is hard to be there
For someone who is not
There for you in return.

II

This is as far apart
As we can get - twelve hours -
Without needing rockets.
Sunrise, sunset. Days pass.
New moon, full moon. Months pass.
Spring, summer, fall, winter.
Years pass, measuring out
The distance between us.

III

Keep in touch, you once said,
And probably meant it.
Now I, hiding behind
The cables and networks,
Am too afraid to test
The veracity and
Tenacity of words
Perhaps long forgotten.

IV

What do I know of love,
Who never had it save
In the guise of ink and
Paper, bytes on a screen?
But I know this at least:
I would trade all my words
To reclaim what little
Of you I once received.
