Love in Hexasyllables XXII: Let You Go

Jun 21, 2007 11:57

It is the letting go
I find hardest to do,
That briefest instant when
I begin to forget
I still love you. The heart,
Greedy even for love
Unrequited, betrays
The mind's attempt to flee
This knot that I will not
Cut. It is foolishness
To cling thus to a past
Composed of such trifling
Incidents, but I know
You find it just as hard
To move on, even though
Your reasons are not mine.
This is rejection cast
As a delicate dance
Between temptation and
Resolution. Would that
I could love you only
As much as you love me!
For that is the crux of
My dilemma, simply
That if we were to weigh
Our affections, the scale
Would tip in my favour.
