Merry Christmas (Eve) to those both who read this and to whom it is appropriate! I got all my shopping done while I was still home for Thankgiving/ surgery, which I think is the earliest I have ever gotten it finished.
I have to say, I know that other families' Christmas traditions are always different, and it's one of those things where only the way you grew up with it is the Right Way™, but it's still weird/hard to adjust to other Christmasses. The biggest ones for me are when presents are opened (CHRISTMAS DAY! Preferably after breakfast/stockings), elaborate food traditions (we only have 2 fancy meals, besides "traditional" cinnamon rolls at breakfast), and Boxing Day/ visiting (we don't really do that...sort of at all. Though I think we do go see friends etc, just not as a family). Other stuff isn't such a big deal, but those things are...sticky. It's difficult to accept being part of a different tradition while visiting, but it's still good! Just different.
Relatedly, since arriving in Germany, we have been to Munich to the various Christmas Markets and to see Tangled (in English, with no subtitles! But, puzzlingly, with the German title card reading "Rapunzel" instead of "Tangled"), both of which were very exciting. I have been making great use of the woolly slipper-boots I bought there :D So fuzzy! While
avatar1983 had doctors'appointments and work to do, I have been under no such obligations, and have mostly slept in.
Though, yesterday, I did go out on a dog-walk with Heidi, which was a bit more of an adventure than I had anticipated. There was much venturing off the actual trail and making our own way in snow that was too deep for my borrowed boots (thus my jeans were soggy for most of the day). I was later informed, however, that such adventures are purely typical Heidi, and thoroughly to be expected. Well, such is life - we shall see if further adventures are to be had over this trip.
Fortunately, the biggest potential problem we've had so far seems to be fading before it becomes too bad - I had a significant fever (101) the other day and felt pretty wiped out. Oh noes! But yesterday it was much lower (99), and I'm hoping it'll just continue to drop off and not be a problem. Once I hit 97 again (normal for me), all will be well :D
For now, we are watching "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" because
avatar1983 has never seen it, and I want to save "Rudolph and the Island of Misfit Toys" for a better time, since it's my favorite one. Presents will be exchanged tonight (::mumble grumble::), and my second experimental Ribbon Salad will be eaten tomorrow night (I WILL learn to make it right, because Mom won't be able to make it forever, and there shall never be a Thanksgiving nor Christmas without it, if I'm in charge!)
I think that about covers everything - if anything more exciting comes up in the course of this German holiday, I'll be sure to let you all know. Hopefully without this kind of infodump in future XD Hope everybody else is having an awesome holiday! ♥
