i am a culinary genius

I have PMS. I ate too much veg and rice yesterday and have had a dire protein craving all day. I also tend to be low on blood sugar if I don't eat between work and gym, and have a short useful attention span before I start babbling and accidentally setting things on fire*. These powers combine to make the best and worst dinner food I have made in a while.

You may want to skip this if meaty convenience food horrifies you. It kind of horrifies me.

3 fresh, uncooked sausages
1 can crescent-roll dough
5 baby portobello mushrooms
1 egg
Olive oil

large pinches each of:
Dried sage
Dried rosemary
Pepper

Preheat the oven to 375 F. Cover a cookie sheet with baking parchment and unroll the crescent roll dough. Cut the dough into six large squares and set the cookie sheet aside. Wash and slice the mushrooms; set aside. Grind or dice the sausages finely. Heat a tablespoon of olive oil, and stir fry the mushrooms until about half cooked. Add the meat and spices to taste. Cook gently until lightly browned, breaking up any large masses with your stirring implement. When that's done, take it off the heat and let it cool. Crack an egg into the cooled pan and coat the meat mixture in it.

Spoon the meat mixture onto the dough squares. Fold over into triangles and pinch together to seal the pockets. Slit the top of each one so they don't explode. Bake for 12-15 minutes.

I need to come up with a good sauce for these... somehow sauerkraut or a light horseradish-flavored thing sounds right.

*Has not actually happened.

food, girl-stuff, yay
