worm bins, home ecology, and hidden life

I'm starting to think about a worm bin, partly for food for the planaria (yeah, that would be raising a bunch of perfectly healthy red worms to be eaten by another worm species that I'm arbitrarily valuing as pets) and partly for disposing of food waste, since I always do feel wasteful putting vegetable scraps down the disposal.

I'm not sure about this, knowing that I am barely passable at domesticity to begin with, and that I don't have a personal use for the resulting compost. I don't garden well - really, I've killed Christmas cacti. I kind of want to start maintaining houseplants, but I'm not that good at maintaining my whole house.

The interconnectedness of all life is staring me in the face, and I don't know what to do with it.
