The end of August is Monday. I made August my cosplay break, and I've been pretty good about not doing anything cosplay related the whole month. The only sewing I really did was shortening some sleeves for my aunt and a couple of coin purses. I did cut out the pattern pieces for Gil's pants, but I haven't sewn them together. I have two coupons for fabrics; one expires tomorrow and the other expires on my birthday. Seeing as how I think tomorrow will be my last opportunity to buy fabric before I head down to Beaufort to visit
cardcaptorkiki, I'm going to use them both tomorrow to buy the rest of Gil's fabric and the stuff for Ikuto's ears and tail. Next round of coupons will be for the Aria cosplays.
I nearly had a heart attack at work today and did break down into tears. We have a bearded dragon named Max in one of our labs. We got him a couple of years ago, and at the time he was only big enough to fit in a hand. At some point over the first summer we had him, he lost his left eye. We don't know how; we found him one day with that eye shut. At the time he had sand in his cage so we just thought he got a grain stuck in his eye. Over time the eye never opened and took on a sunken in appearance. We described the eye to a vet and they surmised that some must have dropped him. None of us instructors have ever dropped him, so we suspect it was a student who thought it would be okay to remove him from his cage despite our warnings not to. Because of that, Max became a little skittish around us but that went away after a while.
While we were all messing around in the lab, we were also cleaning out his cage so we put Max on the floor or on top of the desks for him to walk around on. At one point he was on the desks and I had gone to wash my hands while keeping an eye on him. He starts wiggling around and moving...towards the edge of the desk. I freak out and, with soap still on my hands, race to catch him before he falls. I don't make it and he tumbles off the edge of the table which is a good 2.5 feet from the floor. I turn the corner and there he is, on all fours and perfectly fine on the floor. According to my coworker who had seen him fall from where she stood in the doorway, he had flipped over in midair and landed on his feet. I just fall to the ground, laughing and crying, at the same time, completely relieved that he's fine but scared to death all the same.
I don't own any animals myself but I kind of consider Max like a pet. I helped to pick him out, feed him on occassion, and hold him sometimes when we take him out of his cage. I was near pissed when we discovered his injury. I would have never forgiven myself if he had fallen and injured himself.
So that is my harrowing story for the day. I am exhausted from mother nature's recent visit. I'm just going to watch the latest Pandora Hearts, have dinner with mom, watch the latest Shugo Chara on Crunchyroll, and then go to bed early. There is fabric shopping tomorrow (after a stop to the post office and an hour drive), some regular shopping, then I have to come back and get ready for my coworkers recital. Busy day.
