Though I am a supporter of moving, the logistics of moving a journal based game to another site seem rather complicated. You would have to deal with the hassle of:

-Making sure all journals friend each other and are the proper ones
-Everyone importing their personal entries
-Icons being broken in said entries (due to DW's import function. It's a small thing, but it would happen)

Is there any talk of switching to a comm-based format? I'm just curious.

Even so, I'll go where the game goes, no matter what. --b

EDIT: ANOTHER QUESTION-

In the event that we do move, will we have the option of choosing different usernames for our characters?

Complicated, yeah. Staying here is also complicated, so it's like a choice of hassles! :D

In the event of a move, yeah, you could change usernames? I was thinking that everyone could post to the friend add on DW if we move- so we could get a wholly updated list, which we could then update to every other list. Which is a hassle, but moving itself is a hassle, so. :x But once the whole adding list was together, everyone could friend add the fresh one.

But if you or anyone has better ideas of how to go about it, please suggest it. I'm thinking out loud, mostly.

And- I think there's been mention of moving to a comm-based format. My concern is, so much happens over journals- what do then?

We would probably have to make a sep journal or something for past game threads and ask people to import journals onto there one by one. That would be... Welp. XD

No, you make sense! Maybe a f-locked post to the OOC comm with everyone posting their DW usernames would solve that?

I will do my best to think of something! /o/

I'm not really understanding what you mean by "so much happens over journals"- I play at a comm-based game and it's more or less the same experience? What specifics are you talking about?

Something like that would make sense! Just some place to keep it all organized.

:3

Ah- I've never played in a comm-based game myself, so I just assumed. Mostly because- I do a lot of threading in journals myself, and so do a lot of people- how does switching purely to logs work, in those cases? In the end, I'm cool with whatever everyone else wants, though. :D;;

You basically just post journal entry posts to the network via a comm post rather than a personal journal. The comm becomes you 'friend page' so to speak.

Comm-based isn't necessarily logs. SK for example has a logs comm, but the main comm is comment-war/journal post style. I'll admit it's nice not to have to keep up with friends-adds and removes, but otherwise not much is really different in the end.

Ohhh. :x Huh. I thought it was more fundamentally different! :D;

Nope, it pretty much just makes the comm or -a- comm into the personal journals. Then you can follow that one comm and have everyone's journal entries, without the friends adds. (and without having to keep things separated if you use the same journal for more than one game) It's honestly convenient, but I've never minded journal-based either. I play and like both.

It's something to think about, at least. My other concern then, is that if you have your posts on your own journal, you have more control of them- when if they're all in a comm, they're at the mercy of the comm.

Yeah that's the definite drawback. (As I say, I play in both, so I see pros and cons.) All I'd say for sure is that this is the time to consider it if it's ever going to be considered.

I don't...think there's a lot that can be done with posts where they are now? If AD stays, then yeah, there's absolutely nothing you can do except trust the players to leave the posts in their journals alone for however long they're in game. (As far as switching to being a comm-based game, that is.)

If AD moves to DW, shouldn't importing be more of a choice of the individual players? I mean, leaving a note in a character's DW journal saying 'previous game entries for 'x' are at journal' is less of a hassle than being put in queue for import. (Not to mention all comments come in as OpenID DX)

That's just. What I think.

Yeah- your own journal content is your own, you know? The canon would still be there, just in a different spot, if you choose not to import your own journals.

Yeah. I mean, hell, when I switched Niteo from journal to comm, that's pretty much what I did. I just left a note in my character journal saying game entries are now in the main comm, so it shouldn't be anymore difficult if the game either moves/turns to comm/ALL OF THE ABOVE.

Or something.

If we did decide to do that (change from journal to comm, I mean, and right now it's just a possibility that is being discussed), would you be willing/able to offer advice on how to do that best? Since you've done so before...

There's not much to it, really. Have everyone friend remove the journals, give everyone posting access to the main comm, move information from the main comm to somewhere else (like the ooc comm or the mod journal or a wikia), figure out a tag system (do you want posts to be tagged with just the character's name or do you want posts to be tagged with the poster+taggers?), and just....pretty much start posting on the main comm.
