Happy Holidays!

Dec 25, 2009 00:40

At 2:05 a.m. Christmas morning, residents will experience a moment of odd peacefulness. There will be odd complete silence in the city for a few seconds before sound returns, with a quick feeling of the air pressure changing.

Welcome to reverse decompression. There are many obvious changes to the city - 33, to be exact. Thirty-three new structures are now in the city. In each quadrant there is a small neighborhood of five houses each, and then three other buildings. This means there's shelter to be found, reliable shelter. It also means that characters might wind up with new neighbors. as they look to take advantage of the new situation. All new buildings are unfurnished unless otherwise noted. None of them are hooked up to electricity or water. If they've landed in the right area for it, residents can connect them.

The City Map has been updated to show the new layout of the city. If one of the buildings has landed where you headcanon your house to be, the house has been safely moved out from under it.

The Northwest Quadrant is graced with the Taj Mahal. It's the building alone, without the rest of the premises. Also sprucing up the quadrant are the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, growing and flourishing. St. Basil's Cathedral is a gorgeous location to spend the day in, or nap on a pew of. The five houses are in a Queen Anne's Row style, each with four bedrooms, an attic, and a basement.

The Southeastern Quadrant hosts an impressive Minbari Skyscraper, a crystalline temple. Only the first twelve floors are accessible - higher access is blocked by an unseen force. Perched elegantly near a new waterfall is Fallingwater. Also in the quadrant is the dramatic House on the Rock. The small neighborhood here are Treepod houses, which can sleep three comfortably, or four who are very friendly.

In the Southwestern Quadrant, offering an exclusive view of the Squid's playground (and sometimes peeks at the Squid himself) is a portion of the Chateau de Chenonceau. A Mayan Pyramid lends a dramatic accent to the place, as does Howl's Moving Castle, which has made its last move and is now resting peacefully (without a Calcifer or Howl). Howl's door does not take people to other places, nor are there potions or magical items, but there's a lovely fireplace and plenty of rooms. The neighborhood gracing this quadrant is made up of Greek houses, white with blue domes, each able to hold five or six people.

The final quadrant is the Northeast. The central building of the Temple of Heaven, the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, now graces the city. One small section of Ta Phrom is here, providing shelter with an ancient feel. For those who want something a little more hospitable, there's always the Last Homely House, direct from Rivendell. And the final neighborhood is several traditional Japanese houses.

But wait, you say. That's only 32.

You're right.

The fences are gone around the city. In their place are portions of the Great Wall of China, some restored and some left in their run-down state circa 2009.

Happy Holidays, Adstringendum. <3
