Only... the hospital isn't home, either. She becomes a model patient in order to get there: She does all she's told, she attends every session, she even starts to worry about her friends. As part of her delusion, she's told in the dreams, they can only keep her from going home. She's been warned. She pretends she understands they're not real when she's sure she was with them somewhere very different only that morning.
But during the day, she can't take it anymore. She feels wrong mistrusting, even for a heartbeat the people she's thought of as her dear friends for so long. Right or wrong, true or not, she can't accept writing them off, pretending they don't matter when they touch her heart so deeply. She feels guilty for the nights, for the way she looks at them and wonders ( ... )

But Nathaniel is nothing if he is not rational, so rationally, he stands. He questions his guards, who say nothing. When someone comes in to feed him, Nathaniel snaps up, rounding on the nurse with a barrage of questions. There are answers- short, snippy ones- and he isn't happy with them. He doesn't believe them.
Why the hell do you think you're here? Accusing a man like Makepeace of treason! Making funny allegations to demon summoning inside other people- if you weren't who you were, your trial would have been a lot faster. Everyone wanted to see you hang.
