Juliet sat up more fully when she caught sight of a shape moving through the fog toward her front door. It was only a shadow at first, but it soon took on a more human appearance. She rose from her stool and headed to the door, opening it just a crack, to try and get a better look. The glass could sometimes distort things.

"Willow? Is that you?"

She let out a relieved sigh. The mists were setting her on edge, and she was not certain as to why, save that anything strange the Animus did was to be looked at with wary eye. She took up her bag and stepped outside, shutting the door carefully behind her.

"I am glad you could find the house at all this morning. Normal fog lifts as the sun rises, but this...." She waved her arms about. "I have seen nothing like it before."

When she could see the other woman properly, she offered her a smile. "Are you ready to go? I believe I can still find the way, even in this. I kept the path marked on my little machine."

"Conjuring?" It took her a moment to register the meaning. "You can perform magic? As Sirius and Tom and Harry are able to do?" And she grinned at that, feeling immediately safer. She reached for Willow's hand with her free one. "So we may not be separated in the journey," she said.

"We have not such people in Verona. At least, none of whom I am aware. Some accuse the apothecaries of magic, but I believe that to be from fear rather than knowledge."

She was glad for the reassuring squeeze. It made her feel a little more confident as she led the way, her eyes flicking between her PCD screen and her friend.

"So you are a different type of wizard than they. If there are several types of vampires, it makes sense that there are several types of wizards as well."

"Verona." She smiled wistfully for a moment. "It is a grand city, and the Prince who rules is most fair and kind. It should be even grander than it is now. Were it not for the feud, I think it would be."

And her expression darkened.

"My family and that of my husband have been at odds for generations. I know not the reason, and I do not think Tybalt does either. But there seems to be no way to end it and bring peace to the city. Even the Prince's best efforts seem to have little effect."

His edict forbidding bloodshed had done little good, in the end.

"But, on the whole, it is pleasant and I love it dearly. And I miss my family very much, though I do not think Nanny or Mother would adapt well to life here."

She couldn't help but smile at the question. "Almost immediately that we saw each other. We looked into each other's eyes, and we could see the other half of our soul. At least, that is how it felt to me, then."

She sighed. "If only it could. I fear it is too late for such things now. I will return home to an uncertain future. My Romeo, he has been exiled, to where I know not. Nanny has gone to find out what she can, and to bring him my ring, to show him I still love him. I must wait until she returns to find out what will happen to us."

She bit her lip, unsure of how much to say. "He - he killed another in a fit of passion - he avenged the death of his best friend. The Prince showed him mercy by granting him exile instead of condemning him to death."

They were approaching the tree now; she could see its outline through the fog. "Here, here is the Naming Tree. Come, and I will show you where I carved Spike's name." She glanced at Willow. "He is truly alive in your home? And he is happy?"

That brought a true smile to her face. "I am glad for that. He deserves his happiness." She pulled the other woman over toward the tree, and pointed at a name at her eye-level. "Here. My writing is not the best when carved, but it is able to be read." She pointed with the hand holding the bag toward another name. "And that is the girl who was like to a daughter to me here. Bubbles. She was most extraordinary."

She smiled wistfully at the names, wishing she did not have more to add. Would that everyone for whom she cared could stay here. Selfish, but she could not help it.
