Usagi wasn't really sure how she hit this stroke of good fortune: her roommate in this rather alarmingly strange place was a(n incredibly) beautiful and graceful priestess. Really, she could have practiced in her room for hours to be just like her.

Funny how even living together for a year, something felt a bit strange about their relationship. Like there should be more to it. Like something made her want to know the other girl even more. This week, she was absolutely determined to do something about it; so, she popped in by Rei's room as soon as she could.

"Hey! Rei-chan!" Usagi still called her by that, of course. "Want to go out a bit today?"

Rei looked over from where she was sitting on her bed -- reading a book (the Bible, incidentally, or at least a Bible), which she quickly closed and pushed underneath a pillow.

"Usagi," Rei greeted, arching her eyebrows. "Sure -- what do you want to do?"

Usagi grinned, and brought a hand around from her back, clutching a small basket.

"Tada! It's a bit early, but we could check the gardens. I'll help pick anything that's ready!" After all, she couldn't ask the people here to pick up her slack; she had to do things for herself. But doing them together would make it a lot more palatable.

"There might be some potatoes," Rei said after a moment or two of thought, getting up to push herself up off of her bed, "but there's no harm in looking. Might as well get an early start on collecting if there is anything -- we can't afford to let any of it go bad."

They had mouths to feed, after all.

"Besides, you need to come out and get more fresh air! You can't meditate all day." Not that Rei spent all her time indoors anyway. It really translated to 'have some more fun'.

Tsukino Usagi, even without people who tended to pick up her slack, was not prone to work without convincing herself it could be made into something else. Without waiting to see how long Rei took to follow her, she was already turning back to the door, rushing ahead as always.

"I get plenty of fresh air," Rei said, waving a hand, though she followed Usagi out of her room, pausing to slip on her shoes before she stepped outside through the rear entrance of the Temple of Heaven. She had been meditating a lot recently -- she felt bothered by what the Animus said, though she didn't know why.

Ah well. Maybe Usagi was right. She just needed to shrug it off and do something productive.

"These look better," Rei commented, turning over a leaf on a plant.

Guess who didn't really like potatoes? But while she was still a glutton, Usagi made a lot fewer picky complaints these days. It just didn't seem right, when everyone was hungry at times and few stomachs were full all the time.

"They're growing well now. I was worried about them." Usagi smiled at the plants, and bent closer to talk to them. "You guys have to grow up big and strong, alright?"

"Ah!" She glanced back up and behind herself to Rei. "I brought shovels out here, too, to make digging easier."

Food was food, to Rei, and while she missed her comforts -- it wasn't something to turn your nose up at, not in Adstringendum.

"Good idea," Rei said, turning to look around for the shovels, before locating them against the wall. She stooped to grab one, offering one, handle first, to Usagi, before turning towards the plants. "Now... we have to figure out which ones are ready."

Usagi took the small hand shovel and squatted back down to give the plants a dubious look. She screwed her face up very intently, the picture of concentration and focus.

Then she shrugged her shoulders and gave a somewhat awkward grin. "I have no idea how to tell. Do you know?"

"I think it has something to do with these flowers," Rei mused, though she was unsure herself. Something told her that someone had informed her of the way to tell when the plants were ready -- but she brushed it off as she extended her hands to tug up on a plant that looked ready, the stems flowering slightly.

Usagi peered even closer as the plant was tugged upward to the surface.

"Is it ready?" It looked fairly normal to her, but she wasn't exactly the best judge. "It looks... like a normal plant, doesn't it?"

"We can feed it to Cas as a test," Rei said dismissively, yanking up a plant to reveal a small potato. "Problem solved."

"Rei-chan!" Usagi was deliciously shocked. She hid a giggle behind a hand. "That's not very nice to your friend!" Which, was mostly what Castiel was to Usagi. They knew each other in passing, but come to think of it, he was another person she should really make an effort to get to know more.

"He'll be fine," Rei said, waving a hand as she dusted off the potato. "Besides, getting him to eat anything is a battle. He could stand to try something new."

"That sounds like a sneaky plan." Which, she had to be afraid, could be used on her, too. Suddenly it was in her best interest to be part of cooking dinner, to make sure it'd be something she'd like.

"I'll help you cook!"

"Why the sudden volunteer?" Rei asked, mostly teasing as she pulled up another potato to put in the basket. "I've never heard one that quickly."
