Had Yukio taken the chance to look back to Rin he might have seen the display of emotions his brother was trying to keep silent. His expression had started sullen, dipped into depression, and shot back up into an anger he was doing his best to hold back.

Rin was thankful that Yukio had come to help, but unfortunately this was exactly what made him so mad. He didn't go looking for that situation, there was no reason for Yukio to be as pissy as he was acting.

"If you've got something to say to me then just say it." He spits out, staring holes into the back of his younger sibling while he was facing the other direction.

Yukio doesn't have to glance back to know the spiral his brother's emotions are taking, he had seen enough when they left and he knew there probably had not been much change in the time they had spent walking. He knows well enough that Rin didn't go looking for what had just happened, he's angry at the right person in that sense at least but it didn't negate the fact that the conversation still happened at all.

If any of his anger is directed at his twin, then that's where it sits: the fact Rin didn't know how to walk away, especially after what had happened the last time this happened.

"I don't have anything to say to you." He mutters in turn, voice even as it always was yet still not glancing back.

"Well I do."

The elder continues to stare at the younger. Whether the source of his frustration came from himself, Lucifer, or Yukio's continued apathy Rin couldn't tell. He should have been happy with their silence, hell it at least meant he wasn't getting yelled at for something he couldn't control. He couldn't just let this go though. The absolute last thing he needed on his conscience was for Yukio to die the exact same way their father had died: by the hands of Satan, protecting him.

"I could have handled that myself. I didn't need you to jump in. "

"Expect you weren't handling it at all,"

There's a hitch in Yukio's voice as he says this, his jaw tightening ever so slightly as well. He realizes a bit more of his anger might be misplaced at Rin but after them supposedly working on things there shouldn't have been a need for Rin to handle things by himself anymore -- especially when it came to Lucifer, even a powerless one. It left him more than a little frustrated to say the least, because everything he had said he had meant.

"You were standing there letting his words get to you."

"..."

Alienating Yukio would be a thousand times better than watching him get killed. So he'd take the first response with a grain of salt. The second however strung a weak point. What Lucifer had said, the parts that weren't chalked full of condescending allusions, was impossible to ignore. His goal to defeat Satan; he'd told himself and boldly stated it wasn't for revenge, but taking another look he wasn't so sure anymore. Rin had never been one to think of the repercussions his actions, but with the weight of defeating the god of Gehenna hung above his head on his own accord, was this just another 'gift' he was intended to receive?

"Whatever, I'm not justifying what happened." Yukio could take comfort in the fact that Rin didn't go charging after Lucifer again.

"How long were you there??"

"I don't remember saying you had to justify anything, just answering your question. As usual though you're just carelessly jumping to conclusions to suit your needs."

Yukio continues to walk forward, really the only thing he can truly focus on at the moment instead of trying to figure out the reasoning behind his brother's action. Although that wasn't hard at all to figure and in some way, he knows how Rin's feeling worked better than his own at times but it was frustrating to deal with it because he needed to realize there wasn't any reason to do anything alone. He's sure its hypocritical of him considering he had kept Lucifer's presence here a secret for so long on top of the eight years worth of secrets but that had been the very for their talk when their father first arrived.

He felt like he was stuck in a loop with Rin, and all he wanted was to stop it before it got far to out of control.

"Not to long..."

"I'm not doing anything to-!"

He takes a sharp breath, holding back another remark that would have been less than helpful to their situation. Nonetheless Rin was thankful to hear that Yukio hadn't been there long. Having that conversation only partially recorded in Yukio's memory was at least some relief. "Good."

Rin stops in his tracks, looking back to where he once was then ahead to where he knew home was. A part of him should have known the best thing would be to stick together after being sought out, but more than anything all he wanted to be was alone. With another beat he'll take a step towards... whatever was on the other side of the road.

Yukio is usually not the type to question Rin going off on his own, he knew how better it was for the both of them to not be around one another while they were both in such a state but the logical part of him -- the part of him that was the exorcist, not the brother was saying otherwise concerning the fact. So when he sees Rin walking off, he can't help but sigh.

"Do you think you really need to be going off on your own right now?"

Especially considering how wonderfully it went last time...

Have an expected scoff as Rin doesn't stop walking, but slows his pace to look back to Yukio.

"I think I don't need to be watched like I'm some kind of baby." And he really, really didn't want to go home to a onslaught of questions and lectures he knew was going to be waiting for him once word got out.

"Maybe that wouldn't need to happen if you grew up a little."

Yukio doesn't look over himself, simply keeps his attention toward the door though the annoyance wasn't hard to miss as always. Frankly he was tired of the questions and lectures himself, but until Rin actually understood the reason for them he highly doubt they were going to stop anytime soon.

"I have grown!"

His voice hits a grave tone, far more serious than typical to the usually frivolous teen. There's a crunch of dirt and stone beneath Rin's shoes as he turns to face Yukio again. The decision to take a walk around town clearly having been put on hold for the words that leave his mouth next.

"You're the one who needs to grow up. Did you even think about how stupid you were to just put yourself between Lucifer and me???"

"I never said it wasn't, but at least I can admit to it instead of brushing it off or making excuses!"

Yukio finally turns where he stands, fists clenched at his sides clearly his decision to let this whole thing just settle as usual die as quickly as the thought came about. He was tried of it though, and it was clear as day that this wasn't just going to settle and go away any time soon not when their arguments were getting more frequent and worse in their few months here.

"It's like you don't realize what your actions can have on the rest of us."

"... You don't even know the half of it."

If they were going to try and work together, it was going to get worse before it got better. These arguments are just the late growing pains of closing their worlds off from one another. With them being stuck in this messed up dimension, going through all those bi-weekly alterations only moved this growth along. Especially after the time when he and Yukio had switched roles in their lives... Rin had actually caught a glimpse of what he should be acting like as the older sibling.

"I'm stupid, I don't understand everything, I know that. But you gotta have some faith in me with this!"

"I know enough."

As much as Yukio hated the time they spent switched around, that time spent unable to do anything to actually be of any help, he did miss the fact that in that time they were actually able to still function as brothers despite everything. Rin could juggle his roles effortlessly, while he didn't know how to be both Rin's brother and protector at the same time without messing it.

"How am I supposed to have any faith in you when you don't trust me? I'm not some crybaby anymore, I can help you... so why won't you let me?"

"What the hell makes you think I don't?? You're my brother, crying or not! I'm not going to let another person die trying to protect me, especially you."

And he stood firm behind that conviction. While it may not have been the greatest experience for Yukio, Rin learned a lot from that week. If anything it gave him a huge slap to the face on what he should be worrying about. Living in the same realm as Lucifer, the threat that posed on everyone, and what would happen if he didn't behave. It wasn't the fix he wanted, but until he could think of a better plan it would work.

"Then stop thinking so lightly of me! I know my limits, and helping you like I should isn't going to automatically lead to my death."

Especially after that week, even then when Rin didn't have any of his strength he was still throwing himself in headfirst and telling him not to worry. Why was it so different when he did the same?
