Place: Hex's Maze. Moving towards the tower snarkypotions July 7 2011, 07:13:04 UTC
The tall walls of the maze rose up before them, a faint shimmer across the entrance, indicating magic at work. Not much guessing was involved in figuring out what it was for though, as a scroll hung in the air, waiting to be read.

Of all those gathered here, only five may enter. Choose wisely or forever rest in peace.

And if anyone tried entering from elsewhere or flying directly towards the tower in the center of the maze... Well, they'll find out what Snape's wards are like, won't they?

"I know what to do! I can fly, so I'll fly up and see which way we have to go." Bubbles was really proud of herself for coming up with this idea.

So up, up she went...

There were perhaps two things that the heroes of our story should have been aware of about Snape-- No, three. First, he was a careful, careful man who planned steps ahead. Second, he did not like having his instructions ignored. And third, he was a wizard capable of putting up nasty, nasty wards. This was all, of course, not factoring in one Killua Zoldyck.

Which was probably why Bubbles immediately came flying right back to the entrance, though as the others could see when she landed, not under her own steam. Oh no indeed, it wasn't going to be that easy for her. And yes, she was indeed covered head to toe in a green, gum-like substance that was quickly hardening and very, very, very difficult to get off.

The scroll floated over to her.

Enter through the entrance. No cheating allowed.

At Bubbles flying backward, Kurapica began running to her. He stopped just short of her when he noticed the green "gum". "Are you alright?"

He noticed the scroll and quickly read it. The mastermind's attention to detail was astounding, if very annoying.

"I'd like to go into the maze," he said. "I think I can make it through."

"Bubbles--!" Sango drops to her knees by the fallen five-year-old and hovers worriedly. She pokes gingerly at the green gum and grimaces. A bath later will be one tough feat.

After she made sure that Bubbles was alright, she looked up. This was magic. That alone made it disadvantageous for her to continue. However... "I want to go, too."

"I'd like to go to, if thats alright with everyone. I know a little about magic and maybe I can get rid of some of this stuff if his wards aren't too good..."

Hanna's glancing down at his written on arm and wishing he hadn't written so large of letters. His canvas needed washing to say the least, though he guesses it wouldn't hurt to draw elsewhere, despite it being awkward.

"I'm going." It's not a question, or a request for permission, not after that little demonstration of the twisted humor of whoever had made this... trap thing.

"My hair!!! My hair!!! There's gum in my hair!!!"

Uh oh. If there was one thing Bubbles didn't like, it was gooey, sticky, slowly-hardening stuff IN. HER. HAIR.

"You better get this stuff outta my hair, Mr. Bad Guy! Or I'll... I'll... I'll be really mad!!!"

...and she might even cry, Mr. Bad Guy.

The scrolled rolled itself up and flew behind Bubbles, prodding her (gently) towards the door before flying back in front to show the words that had appeared.

Go through the entrance.

Because the minute Bubbles stepped through, all the gum disappeared. And if she tried flying again? Yes, that was indeed an invisible ceiling right over the top of the walls of the maze.

"Its alright Bubbles, the gum is gone. Just, uh...don't fly again, I don't want to know what he'd do to you next if you didn't follow the rules."

Hanna's kind of worried about what the guy is going to do to him when he tries to go through though. Those last few messages he sent weren't exactly mature. Hopefully it won't be as bad as he thinks it'll be.

Sango hesitantly followed Bubbles through, blinking as the gum disappeared. "That's strange--this is all strange," she muttered. Serpents? Magic? Vendetta? This all stank heavily of a certain wizard, but Sango was loathe to believe this level of pedantic cruelty of him.

"Is there some trick to finding the way through?"

Definitely the work of someone who wanted to exercise authority, Kurapica decided. Once Bubbles was alright and both Sango and Bubbles entered, Kurapica sidled in behind them.

"It might be faster to split up when we come to a fork," Kurapica suggested. "However, that would mean everyone finds the tower entrance at different times." He wasn't sure whether everyone else in the group would be up for that, but...just a thought.

This was just a stupid mess, and all far beyond the things he was usually comfortable with. He'd made his mental peace with Bubbles's ability to fly and such, but that appearing gum stuff? And floating scroll and all that? He growled softly and shook his head as he entered the maze.

"Hanna's right. Flying's probably not a good idea at the moment. Here, if you want, you can ride on my shoulders." He crouched down so Bubbles could clamber on his back. Besides, that kept her close to him, and thus in his mind, closest to the only one really capable.

Bubbles climbed happily onto Tybalt's back and settled in on his shoulders. Wow! She was really tall now! This was even more fun than flying! Whee!

"I heard something once!" she said randomly. "If you touch the wall and don't let go, then you'll get to the end for sure!"

Well, that would actually be fantastic advice, if poor little Bubbles could only remember enough to explain what that meant.

Seeming to grow tired of Hanna's hesitation, the scroll flew over and soundly whacked Hanna over the head. Which was before the root that had silently grown up from the ground behind him reached over and prodded him hard in the back, literally pushing him through the entrance and into the maze.

Which then promptly disappeared, the hedges growing so as to make it now look like just another wall. Oh dear.

"Hey! Ow- Woah!"

Okay, so that had accomplished getting him to land face first in the dirt. He's not liking this maze already. Pushing himself up from the ground and dusting himself off, he's glaring at the now wall, and wondering if he'll find that scroll again so he can rip it to pieces.

"Guess thats our cue to get a move on."
