Characters: Everyone living in Casa de Exorcist. When: Sometime after this. Where: Outside of the Clinic & Bookstore. Rating: PG-13 for the language, no doubt. Summary: Practice lessons! A joy for all.
Unsure of really what else he could do Rin shoves his hands in the pockets of his shorts and follows Shirou slowly. He hadn't heard word of the training, or if so he'd forgotten. He wasn't opposed to learning how to fight, especially considering his recent ruling from the Grigori anything would help.
The answer is brief and to the point, in fact the walk itself is not a long one and once he is happy with the location he turns and tosses the second of the two practice swords he's carrying toward the boy. Shifting on his feet, he muses toward the boy. "Now, let's see what you're capable of. I want you to try and hit me."
Rin catches the sword with no real skill, at Shirou's words though his face falters. The look he gives the old man is far from convinced this was a good idea.
"Are you kidding me?? I'll break your old brittle bones!"
"Eh, what's that?" He going to stand there, itching at his ear with a disbelieving look. "That's strange, I can't hear anything over the sound of you not actually doing anything to prove that."
"How about the sounds of dementia setting in? I already did it before, I ain't doin' it again!"
He'll step forward aggressively, pointing the practice sword to the ground in this movement. He had enough trouble controlling his strength as it was, and really Rin would probably feel better practicing something that wasn't living, or someone that wasn't his old man.
"We're not going to get anywhere unless I know where to start with you and like I said just try. If I'm right, which I usually am concerning you, we'll have nothing to worry about."
There's a moments pause as he eyes Rin, tapping the practice sword against his leg. "Oh yes, definitely nothing to worry about."
He wasn't skilled in swordsman ship-hell he'd only used the Kuri-Kara blindly before and ended up only really using it to increase his own strength. Thankfully that blade wasn't the one in front of him, but for years he had been burdened with that monstrous strength, and it made him hesitate.
"It means at your skill level, even with your strength backing you up, you'll be easy enough to disarm. Using a sword isn't just about the strength of the person holding the blade, there's a certain skill to it and it amounts to more than just swinging it around blindly."
Shirou sighs a tiny bit, tilting his head. "Just relying on one aspect is inviting something bad to happen."
A true point: Shura and Amaimon had disarmed him a good number of times.
"And you know how to-" Duh, Shirou was the Paladin when he was still alive. "..."
There's a short pause before Rin shifts and takes a careful step towards his father. "Don't get mad at me if something happens." With that he clumsily takes a swing at Shirou's arm. Much like he'd do with a baseball bat, trying not to swing too hard but still make the tool do as he wanted.
Shirou raises a brow at his words, musing pleasantly but not saying anything as Rin takes a small step in his direction. For the most part, he's still rather at ease, even as Rin speaks only shifting slightly as he moves to take the clumsy swing toward his arm.
It's almost laughable how easy it is for him to dodge the movement, doing so that he has the room to move while the boy recovers from his miss and suddenly press the tip of the practice sword to Rin's chest, right above his heart. "You see?"
Rin stumbles a bit when the hit misses. A mixture of relief and irritation from his own stubborn pride. Damn old man was faster than he looked.
Before he could try for a second swing though he found himself with the other practice sword pressed up against his torso. A scowl quickly spreads on the youths face as he moves to smack the weapon away with his own sword.
Shirou moves the practice weapon away as Rin swings his own, letting him hit air instead as he lets the weapon come to rest on his shoulder and absently begins to tap it as he again as he waits.
"Grrr... are you going to actually do anything or are you just here to play games?!"
His embarrassment is reaching a peak, after trying countless times to hit the old man and missing with each swing. Rin lets his blade hit the ground again, and decides to screw it and try for a swing at Shirou's legs. He couldn't he so high and mighty if he was on the ground after all.
"I'm here to see where you stand in terms of skill, first and foremost. Besides, you're the one that didn't want me to be hit so I'm making sure that doesn't happen."
Shirou had an idea of what was going through Rin's head, it wasn't that hard to tell. Nevertheless he says the statement as calmly as ever, not to mention he hardly looks out of breath after all this. As the swing comes for his legs, he could have heaved a sigh. Instead he moves in a manner unlike what he's been doing to avoid the awkwardness of hitting the ground and follows up, moving to take a swing at Rin's legs in return.
"..." Well now that he was trying to carefully hit his dad, it was getting frustrating that he couldn't do it. Call it a double standard.
The man had skills though, because before Rin could react he feels the wooden sword hitting his legs and knocking them out from underneath him. It's funny really, how quickly that happened, and how easily he falls back and hits the ground. The thud was proof that a brain did exist inside his airy head to those who wondered.
"Ow! Sonava-!" He'll sit back up, having dropped his sword, and holding his head.
There's a brief cringe of sympathy pain for the sound, but simply smiles a little as he approaches and once again taps the practice sword against his leg a bit before a offering a hand out.
"All right, up with you now. At least now I have a good idea of what we're working with."
"Where are we going?"
