Offering to meet Zaraki somewhere didn't seem strange to Kurotsuchi. It was true that he was generally a busy man, and he wouldn't have made the offer to most. But for as long as he could remember, the eleventh captain had been pretty tolerable company. True, Zaraki could be a bit gruff, wasn't the politest shinigami around, but so far as Kurotsuchi was concerned, those were only positives. Not enough people were properly direct, so spending a small bit of time with the man was hardly much of a burden.

Even so, it wasn't as though he didn't have ulterior motives.

The monster he'd seen had looked like decent research fodder, but subduing and capturing it would've taken too much of his own time. It made more sense to ask Zaraki to fight it instead - it was something that he enjoyed doing, and was better at it than he was. So the scientist didn't feel guilty about asking him to take care of it - but then, he wasn't capable of feeling guilt in the first place, even when it came to things like Zaraki ( ... )

The world was ending. Not only this one, but somehow his own had to be ending too. Kurotsuchi sounded nice. Kenpachi had seen some changes around the network, but for the most part it was people trying to cheer others up. This was just strange ( ... )

When Zaraki started moving, Kurotsuchi went along - not quite alongside, but closely enough. Even so, he couldn't help but notice that they were going just a bit off towards his recommended location, and discreetly attempted to steer them closer to the mark ( ... )

He noticed that Mayuri was trying to edge them in a slightly different direction, but wasn't making any comments. Kenpachi blinked. Wait. Maybe it was the changes in behavior like with others. Maybe Kurotsuchi was genuinely being pleasant. This could be fun, if it was the case. Did he have to be pleasant?

"So yer givin' me somethin' ta play with, and ya wanted wha' was left over. An' there ain't a trick ta this. Yer finding somethin' I'd enjoy." Kenpachi was starting to grin. This could be a really good day, on second thought. He wasn't going to ignore the chance it was a trick, but for once it didn't feel like one. He relaxed a bit, letting Mayuri take the lead.

"Course it's all righ' wi' me. Wha' else is there? Gotta say I'm gettin' curious." Maybe Kurotsuchi was giving up poison. Not a chance, but hey. Kenpachi didn't figure Kurotsuchi finding something for him that was fun was possible either.
