Uchiha Sasuke had disappeared from his own birthday party. This didn't surprise Hitsugaya in the least. What it did do was provide a chance. A chance he'd been building up to for several days. He couldn't let it go to waste, no matter how apprehensive or cautious he may have felt. He'd made the decision, and he'd go through with it. Nothing could change his mind now.
It wasn't too difficult for him to stray clear of those celebrating, much less so than it must have been for Sasuke, and once he was back inside the safety of his own home, he began the trek up the stairs and to the room he shared with the young shinobi. Sasuke had been there all morning while Havoc and Matsumoto had seen to their arguments, and Hitsugaya was sure that was where he'd be now.
He stood in front of the door, the last gateway. Was he really going to do this? He'd already dragged Sasuke down far enough, did he really need to take him the full six feet under? But no. This was affecting his judgment, his thoughts, and his actions in ways that couldn't be ignored. Even if Sasuke took it as a burden, at least he'd know, and he could act accordingly. Hitsugaya had made his decision.
So he knocked on the door. And he waited.
