Summary: Ran has mentioned illness in the morning. Jean has taken it the wrong way and is hearing.... the pitter patter of tiny feet and bells?

Jean turned his head when all the little ones went running for the door and figured that meant they heard Ran coming home. The week had drug by for him except the times he went to see her at the clinic. Slower than the kits did, but with no less excitement, Jean got to his feet from the couch and crossed the floor to see her at the door with an arm full of their 'babies'.

Ugh. That thought caught him off guard, "You're gonna be outta hugs n' kisses by th'time you get t'me."

He leaned down and gave her a small kiss on the forehead so she could be with the kits still, it was an endearing sight.

Ran smiled up at him, giggling. "I can never run out of hugs, kisses and love." She stood up, wrapping her arms around Jean's neck and placing a hundred tiny kisses all over his face.

Jean laughed softly and moved his arms to hold them around her when she in turn embraced him. His laughs and smile lasted through kisses that weren't close enough to his mouth for him to catch little kisses from her lips. He eventually moved his hand to her chin to catch her lips with a soft and tender kiss directly on them in loving adoration before letting his hand slide off of Rangiku's face, "Well that's good t'hear, cause I could definitely be comin' back for a couple more kisses every now and again this evenin

She delighted in his kisses, swooning lightly. She watched him swoop down, confused before she let out a squeal at hi scooping her up. Her arms quickly wrapped around his neck as she cackled a little.

"Jean!!" her sudden outbursts got the Kits yipping and running around Jean's feet. When he had sat down with her, they made sure to jump up and lick and nip, trying to get their attention or help save their mum from the "evil" kidnapper or some sort of game like that.

Jean chuckled, happy as can be even if the kits are getting slobber or what have you all over his face. One arm was busy already holding Rangiku and the other is what he tries to 'defend' himself with, grabbing (softly of course) backs of necks to bring a kit at a time in to get evil omnom's against the side of their ear. He wasn't actually biting the ear, just beside it enough to pretend, "No~! You'll never get her, she's mine!"

His jovial laugh once again happens and then he goes about trying to get the kits to settle themselves down on the couch, 'shh'ing gently to them in an attempt to relax, "Settle down now, settle down. Momma and Papa gotta have a talk for a bit."

"Talk? Why? Is something wrong? Wufei-kun isn't causing problems is he?" She looked a little worried now.

Jean gave her a reassuring smile and then shook his head, "No, no. Nothin' like that. Nothin' like that." He took a cleansing breath and stared nervously at the lady in his lap. Ready for marriage? Hell no. Hell no he wasn't. Much too fast for him regardless if Ran made him feel the way she did. He was in love, or the strong beginnings of it, but

"Jean..." She was practically speechless. "Jean.... why are you asking me this?" her hand went over chest. She never thought anyone would ever ask her that. But really. This was too sudden.

Jean gave her an interestingly curious look. Well it should be obvious to her he's asking for the sake of her reputation- it's not that he doesn't care extremely deeply for her.. But otherwise...

"W..why else d'you think I'm askin'? I don't just shirk a responsibility y'know. I'm a man who doesn't see fit t'leave a lady he distressed nor somethin' he's gotta be proper 'bout. I can't have everyone thinkin' I'm not tryin' t'do right by you, Ran. I wanna do what's right.

I do love you n'.. n'for the sake of our son or daughter I .. I think marriage would be th'appropriate move. I'm not a bad guy, Ran.. I'll take care'a you n' them. I promise.."

It took Rangiku a long while to process this. And while her brain was churning, turning and lightly smoking, She was staring at her lover in a glazed way. And then it hit her.

"You.... you think I'm pregnant?" the question didn't come out harsh, or accusingly. Just simple and rather soft.

Jean stared back at her, worried she was going to be mad at him for not bringing this up sooner. Finally when she spoke he nodded his head in silence and stayed quiet for a few seconds after until he tries to explain himself.

"Y'been tellin' me 'bout how sick y'are in the mornin'.. how sore n' achy you are... lotsa things. Ran you don't have t'be afraid t'tell me. I'm not gonna leave you or put you out or anythin'. I love you and even though it's kinda .." he got up off his knee and sat next to her on the couch, "Kinda soon for us t'be thinkin' like this.. It's only right for me t'take responsibility. You're th'most important thing in my life, Ran."

"Jean... I.... I'm not pregnant." She gave him a relieved smile. "I'm sorry... I didn't mean for you to think that."

Jean paused, stopping to think about what she just said. Once it hits him he's not sure if he's sad or not. He should have listened to Hawkeye and not work himself up to anything until he was sure she was pregnant. He bowed his head and after a long pause in silence.

"Oh." Was all he could think to reply. Now he was embarrassed and shy, unsure of himself or what he should say otherwise. He settles the ring back into his pocket with a heavy sigh and ends up with, "Sorry. I should have...have asked first. Though I was tryin' to figure out how a pregnant woman had such a gorgeous body still." With that remark, he was trying to dig himself out of the hole he got into. He was wanting to try and make sure she knew it wasn't anything physical that had lead him to believe it.

Ran smiled and reached to lightly cup his cheek in her hand, moving his head so he was looking at her.

"I ever mention just how cute you are?"

And with that she kissed his lips softly.

Jean's blue eyes turned up to meet her own at the contact of her hand on his cheek. He slipped his hand gently into her hair and kissed her in return. After a small time of holding his lips to hers he pulled back and held his arm around her to draw her onto his shoulder, "I do love you, Ran.. I'm sorry I made that embarrassing mistake n'.." he sighed.

With a little kiss to her forehead he finishes, " You're so sweet t'understand about it."

"It's alright Jean... just odd you think I would show signs after such a short period of time." She giggled a little. "Wishful thinking is what I'll sum that up to."
