Tenten looked over at him as he came in and smiled. She hadn't been sure what to do with the teacup, but she'd figured it would get taken care of, whether someone wanted cold tea or did their dishes.

"Hey, Neji." There was a pause as she finished plating the first plate. Tenten held it out to him. "Breakfast? And I woke up, so I figured I might as well be up."

She glanced down the hall, wondering if the scents would bring anyone else out. Then she shrugged and served herself, taking a seat. "Did you leave any hot water?"

Neji blinked, smiling uneasily and stepped further in the kitchen, accepting the plate of food with murmured words of gratitude. Glancing around, he set it down across from Tenten and moved to take care of heating water for tea, spilling the contents of the chilled cup into the sink and setting it aside.

"I don't take that long, Tenten." He chastised, bristling, "Though Lee should be in there by now." Neji rummaged through the cupboards idly, pulling things out as he'd need them, "He shouldn't take long, however, so there's little need to worry about that."

Lee's thoughts were a complex jumble. His mind kept looping over what had happened the night before, and there was a small voice that kept repeating certain details with a vividness that he hadn't expected from his own imagination. The Chuunin groaned, then shut the water off and toweled his hair briskly, as if trying to chase the thoughts out ( ... )

Tenten shook her head with a soft sigh. "It's called teasing, Neji. I'm really not going around trying to insult you..." She glanced toward the doorway. She would bet Lee was showering next. "Right. He doesn't tend to be slow."

She felt his chakra before she saw him, and Tenten turned to give him a cheerful wave. The turn was in time to catch him blush. She had to fight down the urge to grin at it, or tease. "Um good morning to you too, Lee."

Oh yeah. The glance was very telling. And they weren't angry with each other or seeming to be too stressed. That small bit of hope was getting even bigger. Quickly she dished up a plate for Lee and handed it over, brushing his hand in the process and trying to not grab it.

"I'm aware, Tenten." Neji said neutrally, frowning slightly as he failed to reciprocate his teammate's humor. But then Lee was in the hallway and Neji turned, the corner of his mouth twitching upward slightly as he took in his teammate's appearance. Neji turned back to the counter.

"Good morning, Lee." He replied as though for the first time, "Tenten made breakfast. Sit down and eat while I finish preparing tea."

That slight upward twitch of Neji's lip combined with Tenten's almost-grin made Lee's blush worsen. He carefully avoided eye contact as he took the plate, because kissing either of them would be a Very Bad Idea right now. He murmured a quiet thank-you, and sat down at the table.

He wasn't looking forward to this conversation. But Tenten deserved to know, and Lee wasn't the type to sit around quietly when there was something that needed to be done, potentially humiliating or no.

"So. Um. Tenten. There is something that I- well, that we- need to talk to you about."

One day. One day she'd be free to tease him again. She wouldn't give up on hope yet, not when they had all three of them. Ooh, interesting reaction to Lee, Neji. And just telling him what to do, fine with it.

She rejoined them at the table, and kept her expression innocent and calm. "Oh? Okay. Well, now's a good time. It's just us. What's up?" This should be interesting, though. She had more than a guess, especially seeing as Neji had never come to bed. ...How red would Lee get, anyway?

Neji glanced at Lee again- this time slightly miffed- and he let the silence hang a few minutes deliberately in silent rebellion as he finished fixing their tea. Turning once again, he set the tray on the table and deliberated on just where he should sit a moment before resuming his place across from Tenten. Switching it now would seem suspicious ( ... )

Lee made a curious choking sound in the middle of a bite, and stared at Neji disbelievingly.

Well, he had decided that the direct route was the best way to go, a voice in his mind reminded him. He just hadn't expected Neji to be the one to take that route. Lee's cheeks flamed red, and he looked down at his plate as if it somehow held a solution that would make this situation less awkward. It didn't. Eventually he looked up at Tenten, still blushing.

"Um. Yeah. We... yeah." Nice going, Lee. That wasn't vague in the least.

She continued to eat calmly, waiting for it. Tenten couldn't figure out how things would come up, if Lee would stutter it out or Neji would state it. Her bet was Lee. Neji was probably too proper to explain things. Either way, she probably needed to act a little surprised but make sure it wasn't too much ( ... )

Okay. Neji glanced up skeptically, peering at Tenten through a scrutinizing gaze. After a moment he shrugged, a knowing smile playing on his lips as Tenten commented on their teammate's blush.

He chewed thoughtfully, looking at a point past Tenten's ear. "Nothing in particular." He said eventually, glancing at Lee and wondering if the other shinobi would leave all the talking to him. "But regardless, Tenten, we won't forget all of us are a team in the process."

Well. That went better than he expected, even with the teasing. Lee looked at Tenten questioningly, wondering if she was really certain that this was okay, but there was no sign in her expression that she had a problem with it. Not that he'd expected her to, but... still. Somehow Lee felt that there should be a little bit more of a reaction to the fact that he was apparently gay and dating Neji. Like a dropped glass, or something. At least a gasp of surprise would've been nice.

Though, he supposed, it was obvious enough- especially considering that Neji hadn't gone to bed last night. Lee's blush became permanent about when he realized that Tenten was probably very aware of that, and could probably piece together exactly why, considering what they'd just told her. Feeling Neji's gaze on him, Lee looked up, then nodded.

"We just wanted you to know."

Tenten shrugged. "After a little thought it was... kinda obvious what happened when this week started. And then I had all of breakfast-making. I'd act shocked, but I don't want to insult you two. You know me too well."

She gave Neji a thankful glance, though. "Good. Thank you. I... I'm glad." She really didn't want to be left out or forgotten, and that was the risk here. That they wouldn't do it on purpose she knew. But they could easily get caught up in each other and then she'd be alone on the side.

Her grin went back to just a smile as Lee looked at her. "Thank you for that. I'm glad you two told me." Well, Neji had. But Lee had been trying too, at least.

As accustomed to the role of mute observation that he was, Neji watched his two teammates, and tried to resist the pull that was Lee's eyes and mouth. Vivid memories of the night before flashing in his mind's eye, and that distraction drove him forward to press a firm, lingering kiss against Lee's lips.

This time, Neji was the one who flushed, and he drew away with an embarrassed cough, clearing his throat and hurriedly returning to his food with a quick semi-apologetic glance at Tenten.

Lee's fork dropped against his plate with a sharp clatter, and his eyes went wide.

Yeah, he was going to be blushing for the next forever. Lee cast a look at Neji that was equal parts 'did you really have to do that now' and 'would you please do that again' (the second part of which could 90% be blamed on the Animus), then determinedly turned his attention back to his plate and set about pretending that nothing had happened. Eventually, he regained enough composure to speak.

"We are still Team Gai. Nothing will change that."

Tenten just stared at Neji. "Right," she finally said. "That's my cue to leave, I think. Especially since I've at least had enough self-control to not grab either of you during this."

Her voice wasn't angry, just wryly amused. She got up and put her plate in the sink. "I'll clean it later. Have fun. And no, it won't change who we are."

With a shake of her head, but wearing a small smile, Tenten headed out of the room.
