They all knew.

Aizen's mind raced. Never mind alternate worlds, different timelines, a merging of realities - it was all fantastic and fascinating, but could be dealt with later. They all knew. Every last Shinigami in the place. In all his contingencies and machinations, all his plans within plans, he had never planned for a situation where every last one of them knew all his secrets - from his shikai to his research, to even the future of his aspirations, the moment he'd finally let go of his mask. The little communication device kept speaking at him, giving piece after piece of the precious puzzle. He was astounded, taken aback, roused to the challenge.

He maintained the role with ferocity, never wavering from it. They supplied information left and right, and he tailored the illusion, considered how to appear the least suspicious. It was a dizzying match of minds and it left him a little breathless, with excitement rather than fear. Of course his illusion would hold. He didn't need them to trust him - just to doubt themselves.

But Gin's woman, Matsumoto Rangiku, had him stumped.

She of all people. Gin's woman. Gin's girl, she'd grown up, and now she put her challenge down flatly. Even if it means opening your own belly? And therein lay the problem. Aizen hadn't gotten where he was by wild improvising and becoming tangled in his own lies; he'd built a persona and abode by it, and knew it to perfection. And lieutenant Aizen Sousuke, model officer, to whom the Gotei-13 were life - he would have done it.

In the split-second he had to decide, however - decide or bear the consequences - he felt the unknown gale of reiatsu approach him, tangible and chilling. Furious, set on the kill.

And so he gambled.

Upon arrival, Hitsugaya would find him on his knees, facing the PCD - staring whoever he was talking to in the eye. He had his zanpakuto drawn and the tip trained on his own abdomen, perfectly set for ritual suicide.
