LOFL. Why is Roy here? general_mustang July 13 2009, 06:40:00 UTC
[It was interesting sometimes, to wander about the city until he found an appropriate resting place, and today it was a bench - surprisingly devoid of the usual signs of decay and... waste. Before he sat he spent a moment ensuring the security of the bench to the floor, reclining into it with a sigh.]

Roy was ahead of him on a bench. Maes tilted his head. In theory, Roy should know what to do. Bu he was constantly single. Maybe he didn't know. Maybe Maes should see if he could help Roy. After all, he wanted Roy happy. It would make him happy to know that his best friend was happy.

"Roy!" Maes headed over, oblivious to the fact taht he was disturbing Roy's rest. Or perhaps very aware of it and deciding that he could get away with it. "Roy, how's the dating life going?"

What do you mean, if he ever gets one!? He's had plenty! general_mustang July 13 2009, 21:14:38 UTC
He noticed Maes before he spoke, and wondered briefly if there was any chance of escape, unfortunately for him Maes was heading straight over, thankfully unarmed.

"Hughes." He responded sweetly, about to stand to his feet when halfway there Maes spoke, and he frowned up at the taller man, slumping back down onto the bench. "Excuse me?"

Then why is he always single? brig_gen_maes July 14 2009, 04:47:48 UTC
There was no chance of escape once Maes had spotted you. None. Roy was doooooooomed. With extra doom. Maes beamed at Roy. "I come to help you out."

He plopped down to the bench and set down the box. "You and Miss Hawkeye. You two aren't together yet. It's time for help from Daddy Cupid! Now, there's a chance you're not together yet because you don't know how to treat women quite right!"

BECAUSE HAWKEYE IS NOT DATING MATERIAL JUST YET. general_mustang July 14 2009, 06:49:31 UTC
The look he gave Maes was critical, help him out? What kind of help did he need, exactly?

Giving him a sidelong look as he sat, he listened only for a moment, eye twitching slightly at the mention of Hawkeye. A moment later his hand was against his face, eyes closing behind it.

"Hughes. You put me, and the Lieutenant in the same sentence in such a way again, and I swear - ash will start to look good on you."

Maes gave Roy his most innocent, and thus his most guilty, look back. Ah, there went Roy's eye, twitching. He was getting somewhere! Somewhere dangerous, but somewhere!

"Roy! You two would. And that's a full stop, so now we're on a different sentence! Be wonderful together! Now would you really set your best friend on fire just because he's trying to help you? That wouldn't be nice!"

That looks, that, damned, look. Really, If he and Maes weren't so close...

"Will you just listen to what you're saying, Hughes? Lieutenant Hawkeye." He paused, and gave Maes his most alarmed look. He didn't like to make it obvious that he was possibly more irritated about the breach of topic than usual, but Maes was being ridiculous.

"If you say a word of this to her, a word Hughes, and yes, I would set my best friend on fire."

That ought to do it.

Maes couldn't help but grin more widely. He could hear every bit of annoyance in Roy's voice, knew what was likely going through his best friend's mind. This was fantastic.

"Yes. Miss Hawkeye. The one you've been eyeing for FOREVER, who has been eyeing you back, but both of you are too stiff-necked to do anything! And now you're here! Here, where rank doesn't matter. And besides. If it did matter, I outrank you!" Roy had gone on and on about his promotion. Maes very well could do the same.

"All right. I won't say a word to her. I don't have to." Maes winked. He had an ally Roy would never suspect. He didn't need to talk to Miss Riza. "So you can't set me on fire!"

His expression was still forced into a frown, especially thanks to the grin - his eyes fell closed for a moment, and he rubbed his forehead with a thumb and forefinger, pausing the second Hawkeye's name was mentioned, he listened, of course he did staring at his friend. It wasn't especially easy to think once he'd spoken, at least, not about Hawkeye.

"Rank always matters, Hughes. Are you insane? We may be in Adstringendum now, but what about when we leave? Any weakness, any weakness could be fatal."

His breath was heavy when he sighed, looking at Maes like he was crazy at his further comments.

"... Good. As much as it would hurt me to set you on fire, I would have to."

It was Maes' favorite occupation to bring joy into Roy's gloomy life. Clearly he was starting to have some effect, if Roy was forgetting details about this world already.

"You won't remember, when we get home. We won't remember anything from here! People who have returned confirm this. They just go back to their normal lives. So! This is seperate! We don't have to worry about what we do here affecting what we do home! Talk to Miss Hawkeye!"

Maes laughed.

"It would hurt me even more, you know. That wouldn't be nice. Then I'd have to chase after you, a human torch, and tackle you. And then where would you be?"

His lips were pressed together as if they had been glued. He knew what Hughes was saying as true - to a tee, he had first hand experience of that. He took a deep breath then, and shook his head, waving the idea off easily.

"I'm not talking to her, Maes. Can you imagine how awkward that would be? Everything we've been through, everything we are - she's my First Lieutenant. It just wouldn't work."

He huffed then, visibly slumped and folded his arms, turning his head from the man.

"Thrust Elysia in your arms."

Maes shook his head.

"Roy, Roy, Roy. You know that's not true." He pointed at Roy and jabbed a finger in his best friend's direction. "You're just letting your fear of failure hold you back! How can the future Fuhrer of Amestris be so afraid? That's not like you! Now, the first step is flowers! You should bring her--"

Maes stopped talking when Roy threatened Elysia. Sure, it was teasing, but still. He snapped one of the knives from his sleeves down into his palm and held it teasingly in front of Roy's nose.

"What was that about my bundle of perfection?"

His head was in his palm, elbows on his knee as Maes spoke, eyes distant as he stared off. The finger point made him frown in the man's direction and he sighed at the mention of flowers about to comment when the knife tried to make friends with his face, and he lifted his hand to push Maes' wrist away gently.

"Oh please, I hoped it would shut you up."

He muttered softly and contemplated moving away, if this was all Maes was going to rabbit on about.

"I don't think she'll be quite as accepting of the circumstances and you seem to think we should be."

Maes just wants to bring you JOY! brig_gen_maes July 16 2009, 01:25:34 UTC
Maes didn't resist his hand being moved, it hadn't been an attack. He gave a sigh and shook his head.

"You know I've wanted you to be happy for a long time. Now there's a chance for the both of you without rank or agenda getting in the way. And really?"

Tilting his head, Maes smiled.

"You must not have been reading her responses to things from the point of view of an onlooker. I think she'd be very accepting. And what's the worst that can happen? She says no? It's worth trying, Roy."

OH YEAH? Well maybe Roy is SCARED of Joy? general_mustang July 16 2009, 06:44:17 UTC
Maes' words definately made it to the core of his brain, and he swallowed back the nervous tension that what Maes was saying brought. He, and Hawkeye? He knew his cheeks were heating slightly, how ridiculous.

"... Reading her responses? Hawkeye has been my First Lieutenant in every way, and nothing more..."

Obviously, he was giving the prospect some thought.

"Flowers, huh?" There was a soft chuckle, before he pressed his hands into his face.
