No, perhaps it was a coincidence. Her eyes looked as if she had just seen a ghost-- ironic how close he was of becoming one.
"What are you doing here?" he hissed dangerously, not lowering his gun. Doing so would only give Mila the false hope that her help was welcome. The last thing Mello needed was her death on his account.

"We aren't friends," he snarled, lowering his gun and turning to his side, as keeping it up would be very useless. "And I've got to time to waste with you; stay away from me."
Mello could never shoot or physically hurt her, but he could inflict a different kind of pain, the kind that might make her lose her will to approach him again. Just as long as she wouldn't get involved in all the danger that had always surrounded Mello, everything would be fine.

The tug on his arm was the last straw. So soon as Mila had finished speaking, a pair of gloved hands were firmly grabbing the side of her shoulders, followed by fierce eyes and chocolate tasting lips that claimed her own abruptly.
He couldn't punch her, but this might be more deadly than any well placed blow.
The kiss (perhaps her first, perhaps her last) only lasted for a few seconds, and then Mello pulled back just a few inches, his voice low. "Be a good girl now and stay away from this place. I'll be fine."

That single word could indicate that perhaps the kiss had been a mistake, but when she closed the distance between them again, Mello was past the point of caring.
Despite the situation, he didn't push Mila away. Instead, his previous rage and desperation were embodied in the way he pressed her closer and deepened the contact. While the first touch had been just a mere pressure from his lips against her, it was different this time. He was kissing her for real, heatedly, stealing every bit of innocence he could taste inside her mouth.
This was what she got for getting too close to the fire.
After a moment, he pressed her against the wall and broke the contact, breathing against her ear. "When I come back, we'll do the rest." The next second, Mello moved away and ran into the church. Alone.
