Gon hurried along the beach following Killua's footsteps, a fishing rod in his hand. Right now, he was in a great mood! He had been a little upset when he found himself waking up somewhere far away from where he should be - Training to hurry up and rescue Kite. But as long as he could get back to the same time he came from, there was no problem right?
Right now the only things that mattered were that the weather was nice, Killua was with him and they were going to catch some sea monsters!
He picked up his pace as he heard Killua calling his name.

The place he had found was a nice quiet strand of beach, in the shadow of a small patch of palm trees. The water was deep right from the shore, so it was the was perfect place for catching fish that normally wouldn't dare to swin anywhere near the land. He ran up to the same rock Killua had hopped on, looking around. No-one in sight, perfect!

"Here's your fishing rod, Killua! It's just something I made it using some stuff I found at the ruins, but it should be durable enough even for bigger fish!", he exclaimed as he threw the rod to Killua. "Did you bring any bait?"

Killua caught the rod before pointing to a bucket he'd set down on the ground before he'd started his little run. "Yeah, I don't know what's best to have or anything, but some of the shops that popped up with the beach were giving it out. I got a couple different kinds, just in case," he replied. Gon would know a lot more about bait than he did. Everything Killua knew about fishing, Gon had taught him anyway.

He looked over the rod a bit, bending it as if to test what Gon had said about its sturdiness. Jeez. He really knew how to make these things.

"Great!", Gon exclaimed as he bent over to take a closer look on what Killua had in that bucket. All of it seemed like great things for catching ordinary fish... But then again, they weren't looking for ordinary fish.

"Killua. I wonder if these dried worms will really bring out a real sea monster...?", he asked as he pierced one of those worms through the hook of his fishing rod and prepared to cast his lure.

Well, how was he supposed to know what sea monsters ate, huh? He'd heard of whales that didn't eat anything but plankton. The boy pouted slightly, but shook it off as he hopped down to bait his own hook. "We can just catch bigger bait with this bait. It can't be that hard, right?" he huffed though not really in a bad mood. "I guess it makes sense that something bigger would attract more fish, but there weren't any shops selling sea monster bait."

Hearing Killua's explanation, the boy's troubled expression was replaced by a bright smile. So they'd only have to catch their own bait first!
"Oh. Yeah, that makes sense."

Gon then cheerfully hopped nearer to the shoreline, and cast his lure with one fluid movement. The lure flew through the air, landing gracefully on water about 20 meters from the shore. The boy looked satisfied as he turned around to give a his friend one last piece of advice: "You should try throwing the lure as far from the shore as you can, Killua. I don't think any true sea monsters would live near the shore!"

"Of course it does," he assured Gon, following him to the shoreline. Everything that came out of his mouth was gold. At least Gon appreciated that much. He watched Gon cast, nodding at his advice and pulling back to send the line as far as he possibly could. The lure flew through the air, landing in the water about half a meter further than Gon's. "Now we just have to wait, I guess."

"Yeah. But you should keep your senses sharp, or you won't notice the monster approaching," he advised as he sat down on the small rock slab by the shoreline.
"And remember to shake your rod tip every once in a while so the worm will look more attractive!"

"Yeah, yeah. It would be dumb if we missed one because we weren't looking," Killua agreed, pushing aside Gon's words as if they were obvious and yet not being able to resist the slightest of grins as he plopped down next to him. A minute or so later, however, and he was already getting a bit bored. Time to run his mouth again. "Why do fish even like worms anyway? Out of anything they could eat, why something so gross?"

Only less than a minute from casting his lure, Gon could sense something approaching his bait. Probably not a sea monster, but judging from the sound it made against the waves it was a handsomely sized bait fish nonetheless! He nudged his rod tip to bring it's attention to his bait and then reeled it in slightly for an easier catch... The fish seemed to follow. This would be easy.
He was interrupted from his thoughts by Killua's words.
"...Hmm? Oh, but have you ever tried tasting a worm Killua? Maybe they're actually very delicious."
He said that in a low voice in order to not to scare the fish away.

Killua caught on pretty quickly when Gon replied as quietly as he did. Peering out into the water, he caught sight of the slightly darker spot moving around near Gon's lure and smirked. "Have you ever tried one?" he persisted softly, partially because he was disturbed by the thought that Gon really might have and partially just to make things more difficult for his friend. He knew Gon could probably catch a fish like this with his hands tied behind his back.

"No..." Gon admitted with a little thought, as most of his attention focused on following the fish's movements. A little nibble, a tug, and... He's hooked!
Gon quickly jumped up from the stone he was sitting on and started reeling the fish in. Then at the right distance he pulled the rod up, letting the fish break the surface.
The poor worm-lover went flying right through the air, landing on the ground beside him.
"Got you now!!"

He eagerly turned around to have a closer look at his catch; It wasn't like any fish he had seen before at all. It reminded him a lot of a halibut, except that he didn't think he had ever seen any pink Halibuts with yellow stripes around? Either way, it was quite a catch. He turned back to look at Killua with a grin.

"But they can't be that bad, if a fish like this willfully swims this close to the shoreline just to get a taste!"

((ooc: I must confess, actually I know nothing about fishing XD Just making this up.))

Killua watched the sight, blue eyes wide, until the fish landed smack on the ground. Still holding his own rod but abandoning his vigilante watch over the water, he scrambled up to join Gon in examining the fish. That was one weird color scheme, that was for sure. He wasn't going to cook this one with its big freaky eyes intact, was he? "Maybe for a fish!" he quickly countered, the image of Gon sucking a worm up like a spaghetti noodle still haunting the edges of his mind.

(( ooc: No problem there. I know nothing about fishing either. x3 ))

Ffff. THE FISH IS STARING AT YOU, KILLUA. HE IS OUT TO GET YOU. jankenpou June 30 2009, 00:40:29 UTC
Gon chuckled at Killua's slight acknowledgement, knowing it was the best he was going to get out of the other boy. However, now he couldn't stop wondering how worms actually tasted. He took a long look at the jar where the bait was being stored, and wordlessly decided he would have to have a taste of it later when Killua wasn't looking.

He then turned to kneel down next to the halibut (?) and quickly released it from pain by piercing just the right part of it's head with the hook, thus killing it. Sorry, little guy.
He re-hooked the fish on his rod, making sure the hook was firmly in place before pulling the it up and holding it in front of Killua, a proud victorious smile floating on his face.

"What do you say, think we can catch a sea monster with this? Or should we eat it ourselves?"

IN THE WAR AGAINST FISHIES, KILLUA LOSES EVERY TIME. kill_joo_ded June 30 2009, 06:50:19 UTC
Killua pretended not to notice Gon eyeing the bait bucket. It would just be better for everyone involved if he didn't know in the end. Instead, he nodded at Gon's choice of death for the fish, the best and quickest, and watched him fit his new bait to the hook. He couldn't help but grin in return to Gon's prideful smile. Jeez, he could get so excited about the smallest things. That was when he was at his best.

"There isn't a monster in the ocean that'll miss a fish like that," he smirked at the pink and yellow scales glinting in the brilliant sunlight. "We can always catch something to eat with the rest of the bait anyway. I wanna see what this place really has to offer."

GOOD THING HE STILL HAS THE ELECTRIC EELS ON HIS SIDE &hearts jankenpou June 30 2009, 19:04:31 UTC
"Right!" Gon nodded cheerfully. That was the answer he was hoping for! He was now getting very excited, more and more confident they could really catch a real sea monster with a bait like this.

He closed his eyes to concentrate on gathering his nen and let the glowing energy envelop his hand and the fishing rod. When he was done, he opened his eyelids, and with one movement sent the fish flying through the air. It landed with a splash on water about 40 meters away, which was just about as far he could throw it without snapping the line.

"I sure know that if was a sea monster, I couldn't resist a bait like this one!", he announced as he sat back on the stone beside Killua with a thud.

ONE DAY THE EEL HAS TO SAVE HIM FROM SOME SORT OF EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES. kill_joo_ded June 30 2009, 21:55:44 UTC
Reinforcement nen came in handy in these sorts of situations, Killua mused as he watched the line shoot out as far as Gon could get it to go. "How do you know what you'd think as a sea monster, Gon?" he nudged the other boy in the side with his elbow, a teasing grin lining his lips. "Though I guess it probably wouldn't be much different than how you think now."

His gaze gravitated toward the water slowly, his grin fading a bit. Aw, come on. If the fish were biting on Gon's side, they'd be bound to start biting on his too. Right?
