(
As much as he'd tried to shake those fake memories away from his head, a part of them still remained )
Silently, he took the nearest chair and placed it close to the bed. Then he sat down and looked at Lelouch with cold eyes and crossed arms. Lelouch had asked what Mello was doing here; the fact that the blond had come to visit him was already an unspoken answer. To directly admit his small concern for his almost-brother wasn't in Mello's plans.
"Suzaku did this to you, didn't he?" he said instead, and he could almost believe that the family event was still going on. Back then, Mello had told Suzaku to make his brother happy or face the consequences; now Mello sounded like the possessive brother who wanted revenge after his brother's lovers broke his promise.
"Don't worry, I'm not planning to get involved," he clarified. If Suzaku'd wanted to hurt Lelouch, that wasn't supposed to be Mello's business, and so he'd forced himself not to react much during his brief exchange with Suzaku in the boy's journal.

Whatever it was, Mello doubted that Suzaku's sudden craziness was related to their relationship during the event. And the fact that Suzaku hadn't bothered to hide his actions suggested that Lelouch wasn't exactly a saint. Whatever Lelouch had done to him, it had to be something big.
"Yeah, he pretty much did. And I know that none of this is my business, so I'm not going to inquire as to why he suddenly decided to hurt his best friend out of the blue. I'm not here to judge you."
Mello cleared his throat. What he was about to say was certainly difficult, especially for someone like him who was unused to all that emotional crap. Still, he had always been an eloquent person, and so he managed to make everything sound firm and not too awkward.
"I just want to make sure that you'll be all right from now on."

It was really odd how close and yet how apart they felt at this moment. Caring about complete strangers was very unusual for Mello, his mind was a mess.
"Have you forgiven him?"
This was a subtle and different way to ask 'do you still love him?'. Mello had experience with obsessing over things that might get him killed, so he could understand it if such was the case.

"You know, I don't consider you my brother or anyone close to me. In fact, we're complete strangers to each other," Mello said honestly, relaxed against the back of his chair with his arms still crossed. His eyes were hard on the other boy, there wasn't a single hint of amusement in his features. "But I do appreciate what you did for me back then, and I don't mean just the chocolate. I'm a man of principle; if there's anything you ever need from me, don't hesitate to ask. Whether or not you decide to take the offer, it'll stand."
((ooc: Little does Mello know that Lelouch is the reason why he doesn't have the Death Note any longer =w=))

A smile appeared in Mello's features at Lelouch's confession, an unspoken way to indicate that Mello's emotions mirrored his. A part of him was wrongly glad that this was happening, actually, like an echo from the self Mello developed during the event-- possessive of his brother and waiting for the chance to snatch him away from that Suzaku bastard.
Before his thoughts went too far, Mello stood up from his chair, rather abruptly as if trying to make his mind shut the hell up.
"You know how to contact me," he said, and then he walked to the door.
