Lelouch turned to regard Suzaku as they made their way out into the more open area. The other looked so happy at the moment, smiling brightly as they walked through the various flowers and trees. Today was a perfect day for a picnic and enjoying the cherry blossoms together. Lelouch could not deny that. He knew that enjoying the day while wearing their yukata from Unohana would give Suzaku a happy reminder of Japan. He had made an appropriately Japanese picnic lunch for them as well, at least to the best of his ability in this place.
Lelouch glanced around as they came to a promising spot. There was an open grassy area at the center, and there were cherry trees surrounding the park-like area. It was not even too terribly far from home, and from the looks of it, no one else was around at all.
"What do you think about having the picnic here?" Lelouch asked.
Spring was Suzaku's favorite season. It was neither hot nor cold and the sight of the earth coming to life gave him a sense of peace. They had cherry trees like this back on the shrine grounds and he spent many hours running among them or meditating with his sensei underneath them. There weren't too many of them after the war and Suzaku hadn't had the time to properly enjoy them when he was in the military. When the trees appeared along with fresh green grass, Suzaku had wasted no time badgering Lelouch about having a picnic. He was grinning from ear to ear as they walked and as he carried the basket and blanket along with other picnicking supplies.
"I think it looks like a wonderful site," he said. "Should I set up the blanket then?"
"That sounds good to me," Lelouch replied. "I can help with the other end."
Once they found a nice spot under the shade of a few of the cherry trees, Lelouch chose a spot. He waited for Suzaku to put down the basket before reaching out for one end of the blanket, ready to stretch it out along with Suzaku to cover a square of the fresh grass.
"The cherry trees here remind me of the ones at the shrine..." Lelouch said, the memory particularly vivid in his mind after his visit to Suzaku's dream.
"Thanks," Suzaku murmured, setting the blanket down with Lelouch's help and then taking out a few stones to weigh it down. He then settled on the blanket, looking up towards the trees and sky. Even the lightest wind knocked a few blossoms off and they drifted lazily in the air....like a feather or a thought.
"They do, huh? It's very nostalgic....you didn't get to see them in bloom though, I don't think," he murmured.
"It's no trouble," Lelouch said. He walked over to the basket to take out a thermos full of lemonade as Suzaku began weighting down the blanket. He poured two plastic cupfuls before settling onto the blanket beside Suzaku and taking a seat beside him.
"I didn't get to see them bloom while I was there as a child... but they were out in that dream of yours," Lelouch said, seeing no reason to deny what he had seen. It hadn't been anything too intrusive, after all.
"They were? I'm glad you got to see them there then. I always thought they were the most beautiful trees," Suzaku said with a smile, thanking Lelouch as he handed him the cup. "I'd spend hours under them....playing...studying...training..."
"They were lovely," Lelouch replied, smiling back at the other. "I'm glad that I got to see them too." Lelouch took a sip of his lemonade, chuckling as Suzaku spoke of the hours he spent under the trees. "Knowing you, training was probably the biggest proportion of the time. You were really strong, even at that age."
"It was. Toudou-sensei always stressed that slacking off meant wasting time and I wasn't one to waste anything," Suzaku said, taking a sip of the sweet drink. "I was so proud of myself back then...thought I was indestructible and all." How ironic that he was now physically stronger than his child counterpart but he felt so weak.
"I remember," Lelouch murmured, regarding the other fondly. "We were both very proud back then. It's no wonder that we fought at first." It was strange how the harshness of their formative years had changed them both since that time. Parts of Lelouch had hardened greatly, but in other ways, he had become much more accepting of others. He no longer held any arrogance about Britannia, certainly.
"You were pretty indestructible relative to me back then, if it is any consolation. You still are."
"Of course I am. That's just how I am. And how you are," Suzaku purred, waiting for Lelouch to finish his drink before he reached over and flipped the other over onto his back. He gave the other a wicked smirk and leaned down to kiss him.
"That's true," Lelouch agreed, giving a wry smile. No matter how much this place had forced him to improve in terms of strength and endurance, he would never be anywhere close to matching Suzaku. He continued sipping his drink until it was done and he put the cup aside. Lelouch was about to reach for the picnic basket when Suzaku flipped him onto his back.
He gasped and stared up at the other in surprise. "Suzaku...!" Lelouch protested. "What do you think you're doing?"
"Having a little snack," Suzaku purred as he leaned down to kiss Lelouch deeply. It was nice to be outside and since no one else was around, he saw no reason to not have a little bit of fun. It'd be too complicated if he did it later when the dishes were all out. Besides, it wouldn't be too much trouble or time when they were both wearing yukata.
"The spring weather must really be--" Lelouch began, his words cut off abruptly as Suzaku's lips seized his. He made a muffled sound of protest into the kiss, his eyes scanning the surrounding area for a moment. Once Lelouch had reassured himself that no one was visible, he relaxed and accepted the kiss, parting his lips as one of his hands slipping into Suzaku's hair. The other was truly a bad influence, but it was very nice to enjoy the spring day together. And as long as no one happened upon them, there was really no harm done...
Suzaku nearly laughed at Lelouch's paranoia. The prince was such a private person, making the whole idea even more alluring. As the other accepted his kiss and relaxed, Suzaku drew closer, nearly settling himself on top of Lelouch. He eventually broke the kiss and started to kiss down Lelouch's throat, his hand reaching down to slip into his yukata, brushing against Lelouch's chest.
